Sources: Nintendo to launch SNES mini this year ..... and probably be discontinued this year as well....
I feel bad for those who want one. Nintendo is really bad at the whole supply thing. Easy pass for me, I still have my SNES and games.
I'm sure they won't discontinue it till next year. Mmmm... Other than Wii U the SNES is the only Nintendo home console I never had. I have played LTTP and Super Metroid on Wii VC but I'd still be interested. I'm guessing this will be very similar internally to the NES Classic. Maybe with some tweaks to close up the hacking exploit.
Kinda sorta want that, especially if we got F-Zero and, dare I hope, a localized Fire Emblem game, but yeah I'm not sure if Nintendo can be trusted after the NES.
It is possible they may do better with demand this time around, but at the same time, it's also very possible the NES mini did exactly what they wanted it to do. Who knows?
Until they make the NES mini available again, Nintendo can shove the SNES mini where the sun doesn't shine.
Why bother? Nintendo will just screw it up again. Not gonna get my hopes up this time. Screw you Nintendo!
A lot of people seem to dismiss this completely, what with the nes mini inventory issue, but I bet ya a lot of people will change their tune when they hear people getting theirs and how awesome it is.
It'll probably be almost identical to the NES Mini internally. The hardware was already good enough. Might need slightly more space for games if they're packing in just as many. SNES games are much bigger than NES games, typically. What I want to know is what is the "win condition" with fans for Nintendo at this point? If they had increased production of the NES Classic to meet demand, it would "prove" that Nintendo was just inflating the demand to sell more units later, which would be wrong. If they extend the production run at the same limited numbers, that's also wrong. If they just cancel the damn thing, that's also wrong. Fans asked for an SNES Mini to follow it, but when we might be getting one, that's apparently also wrong. WTF is actually supposed to happen at this point?
The problem is only corrected when people have the in demand item in hand; at which point they turn to make youtube videos about how its a travesty that so many do not have the item yet while waving it around. The world has degraded to a vicious cycle of clickbait for ad revenue streams.
Back up. Apologize. Release the Classic NES mini alongside the Super NES mini in enough quantities that anyone who wants one can get one. Retailers will order them, after last year's rush. All will be fine with the world. Instead, they've canceled one to potentially underproduce another and make fans even more mad than before.
Most of the best titles on SNES were third party RPGs and the like, in my opinion. I'm not making the same mistake twice, I'm fucking pre-ordering this shit as soon as it's verified and goes live at EB. I certainly hope that they'll include a large number of classic SNES RPGs on this though. EarthBound Chrono Trigger Secret of Mana Secret of Evermoore Final Fantasy II Final Fantasy III Super Mario RPG Breath of Fire Breath of Fire II ActRaiser... Wait was that a good RPG or a different title, I forget. I think Civilization was a fan favorite too, but I'm not as interested in it. And if they don't include all of the Mega Man X titles and TMNT IV Turtles in Time I am going to be royally disappointed. I mean seriously, Nintendo has a lot of properties, but most of their SNES library from what I recall was limited to Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Tetris, F-Zero, Kirby and maybe one or two other properties.
Okay, I get it, but i don't get it. Why cancel the under produced version just to announce a different one? And why move to the 16 bit generation, when they still have plenty of 8 bit in the library? It looks like one of those left hand/right hand situations.
Well they've done the back up and apologize bit. And they extended the original production run by four months. And the mob has made it clear that increasing production would also not have been acceptable, so... I don't buy it. These terms might work for you, but it's not going to affect the angry mob as a whole.
