I don't care what the packaging or cartoon says, the triceratops Dinobot is Slag in my books... especially since Grimlock & Swoop have kept the same names in relation to their dino modes. If they ALL had different names and/or dino modes, it would be easier to accept.
Poor guy. Wasn't Slag's name misreported as Sludge during some of the early SDCC/Botcon reports? Either way, I guess this confirms the real Snarl (and Sludge) won't be appearing in animated.
Well Animated Slag, I mean Snarl, looks as dumb as a bag of bricks. And it sucks for me personally because Snarl was my favorite Dinobot. By this name change, I doubt there will be a Stegosaurus Dinobot.
In some ways its less confusing, since " slag" is the old stand by curse word for most transformer series, especially those that attempt to exist in a g1 type setting. Slag just was tired of having to show up every time people cursed his name, just imagine the years of fossilized depression.
Are they shittin' me I can't believe this naming the Triceratops transformers animated snarl, in which i know and the rest of the fans know that its slag and not snarl. But still I agree with some ppl that I dont care about the name its still Slag to me.
According to the redirect page for Slag on traksformers.wikia the name change is because, once again, Hasbro no longer has the tradmark. Who would have ever guessed Hasbro would loose a tradmark. [/SARCASIM]
Aw jeez, gimme a break...they lost the trademark for a term they've used as a derogatory since Beast Wars?
Actually slag is the impurities and other crap you scrap off the top of a smelter when purifing metal ores. So to a being made of metal that would be insulting.
He wasn't named at all. Only Grimlock was named. Meh. I'll still call him Slag. Hey, if they can't get the trademark on Swoop, maybe the Dinobots will be named Grimlock, Snarl, and Terrorsaur!
Hmm... I saw this coming a while ago, honestly. I never thought they'd use the name Slag, with or without licence. Honestly though, it's still a cool looking toy that I'll pick up anyways. We all still have G1 Slag at least...
Slag isn't just a swear word in BW - here in Britain it's also an insult meaning someone who sleeps around a lot!
errr... what? As for the "curse word" status of the word "slag", I think that's fine... Slag is melted waste metal... so yeah, I can see how for TF's it would be the equivalent of the UK's "bloody" or something of that visceral nature... though as a corollary for "shit", I don't think it works really. However, it's ALSO a good name for Slag, since that's exactly what he turns other robots into with his flamethrower. The fact that it's also a curse word could make him seem more badass... OR, since according to his G1 techspecs Slag is pretty much a total a-hole even with his fellow autobots, it could also be a derogatory nickname, since nobody else can stand the f***er! As for Animated Slag/Snarl... kind of disappointing, but if they're only ever going to introduce 3 Dinos, I guess it makes sense... Snarl is more obvious. Sadly, the toy for TFA Snarl has such a lousy robot mode, I'm not that excited about him anyway. Pretty lame... probably the worst TFA figures we've seen so far (though at least his dino mode looks good). zmog
You can't trademark a swear word. A catchphrase, sure. Swears, that'd be pretty damn impossible to keep a trademark for that. *gets decked by the lawyer of Mr. E. K. Damnson*
