It happens sometimes, occasionally you'll like a smaller, cheaper figure more than their larger counterparts. Maybe the larger one has an obtrusive gimmick, or a completely different design, or maybe you prefer the scale, but sometimes I really genuinely like smaller figures more.

    Examples:

Legends RotF Ravage vs. Deluxe: The Legends figure has a better transformation (which says... absolutely nothing, but still) and I like its proportions and colors a lot better. Plus, its size is a lot more Ravage-y, to me.

In the same vein... Legends RotF Soundwave vs. Deluxe: The Deluxe was... a mess. His chest didn't peg right, his proportions were laughable, and he didn't transform into anything. Twice. The Legends one has better proportions, good articulation for a Legends, and a MUCH better satellite mode.

DotM Cyberverse Blackout vs. Movie 1 Voyager: May be unfair, since it's got four years of engineering and a Scorponok Targetmaster on its side, but the Transformation is a lot better and losing the terrible gimmick means that he's no longer AS freakishly undersized for the size class, more posable (since he doesn't have half a helicopter hanging off his back) and has a non-******ed weapon.

Although I don't have it yet, I think the Laserbeak that will come pack with HA Soundwave will be a much better option than the deluxe one we got.

Legends Optimus Prime looks much better than the Classics Deluxe Optimus Prime.

Cyberverse Blackout, Telemocha Optimus Primal, Animated Voyager Bulkhead, DOTM Deluxe Starscream (over the Voyagers) and any of the HA characters except for the Twins and Jazz.

You do know the Deluxe got Soundwave's proportions right, do you?

None yet, but TFP Deluxe Starscream might be the first. Wasn't too impressed with the Voyager mock-up we saw a few months ago.

It's not like either proportions were screen accurate (since, you know, screen-accurate didn't exist) so I just go with the "proportions that don't look terrible."

Cyberverse Commander Blackout > TF07 Voyager Blackout

TF07 Ironhide, DOTM Voyager Ironhide, and CC Ironhide > DOTM Leader Ironhide

ROTF Deluxe Ratchet and DOTM Deluxe Ratchet > TF07 Voyager Ratchet

ROTF Leader Optimus Prime > DOTM "Ultimate" Optimus Prime

DOTM Deluxe Sideswipe > ROTF HA Sideswipe

I don't own either but: DOTM Deluxe Soundwave > DOTM HA Soundwave

Yes I said DOTM voyager Ironhide is better than Leader Ironhide.

Oooh, Jetstorm, good call. I loved the Deluxe.

Sentinel surprises me. I've heard nothing good of the Deluxe version, between losing his iconic sword and being a massive shellformer.

Not sure if this should count, since it's an entirely different form, but BW Gator Megatron > non-TM T-Rex Megatron. I just think he's a much more fun toy.

DotM Dlx. Roadbuster is playable at all. His HA counterpart is a horrible mess that falls apart constantly, can't stand, and I hate the mechanized car mode.

Voyager Sentinel Prime is awesome. He's simple, he's poseable, he's fun, and most importantly, he doesn't have a zillion panels you need to carefully manipulate.

    Battle Blade Bumblebee.

At the risk of stating the obvious, Battle Ops, Leader and HA don't really offer any improvements other than size in itself.

Classics Bumblebee. He's far better than the CHUGSTORM Voyager Bumblebee we got.

CHUG, but with my own pointless spin on it. I was joking, too, by the way.

I'll echo the Battle Blades Bumblebee, DLX Roadbuster, Legends Ravage and most DLX Sideswipes sentiments. I'll add:

    • Legends Wheelie - Both molds are bad. This one is way out of scale, too, but it's closer than the DLX.
    • DLX Skids and Mudflap - I like the scale with the rest of the DLX line.

CHUGSTORM! It just rolls off the tongue, and sounds impressively goofy.

Anyway, the Legends Ravage has stolen my heart. I'd say Legends Scorponok, too, but I don't own it; I've just seen plenty of videos and pics that make me wish I did. ROTF Legends Arcee is also one that I love more than the deluxe, but I bet you can figure out why.

Activators TFA Bumblebee is actually the TFA Bee of my collection; his proportions are a little off, but he's much more in-line with the other characters (even though Prowl towers above him).

I like Energon Ultra Megatron/Galvatron more than the leader class one :)  But then again, I think it's also due to the paint scheme than just the pure size

    Oh! I can't believe I forgot:

Legends Bonecrusher. No clue why, but I love the little guy. Not that the Deluxe isn't great, with a fun gimmick and good transformation, but for some ineffable reason the Legends version just resonates with me. He's a very fun, solid figure. He enjoys terrorizing my Legends/Cyberverse cars.
