I have Skyhammer on my display shelf right now. I got him because the name was a G1 Micromaster and I like the mold. He happens to be standing next to my Springer when it hit me. He KINDA looks like a classics Whirl. Anyone else using him as a substitute? Sorry if this has been posted before, but it just hit me.

Personally, I went with the Blackout repaint from the TRU set. It feels a little more Whirl to me - big feet, rotors on the back, kinda monoptic eye. Skyhammer is too far removed from what I think of as Whirl. That said, brother, they're your toys. You can call it "Lord Chumley Rotorchest" if it makes you happy. :)

I'm using him as Whirl in my Classics collection right now. Although the Blackout repaint would look more like Whirl in terms of colors, I think Skyhammer's a cooler mold, and he has a much less Movie-like design, so he fits in with Classics much better than Blackout would.

Come on, Hunt for The Decepticons Tomahawk screams Whirl, he just needs to be blue with a cyclops head. He's got the chicken legs, cockpit chest, and blades in the back! Skyhammer is awesome, and the first "movie" figure I've ever bought. Tomahawk is a better fit for Whirl though.

Tomahawk is the closest to Whirl for me, needs a new head though, I can see him as rotor storm as well, hey maybe we just found what's going to be in next years botcon set lol.

Skyhammer doesn't work as Whirl, or Springer.
Nor does Tomahawk work as Vortex, Whirl or Rotorstorm.

Nevermind the colors, transformations don't match.

    Wasn't Skyhammer a pretender?

Transformtions don't have to match, its more details, the the face, what part of the alt mode makes a transformers chest, shape of the feet, weapon placement, classic prime doesn't transform just like G1 but he's still prime.

The name skyhammer was actually used twice in G1.

I believe miscreant is right, Skyhammer was an ultra Pretender. The name Sky High was used on both a Micromaster and regular Pretender, but were 2 separate characters.

I call him Whirl in my movie collection as well. Not that he's all that 'Whirl'-y but I prefer the name over Skyhammer. Now I also use Voyager Megatron as 'Onslaught' in my collection, so really it's all about what you want to do with your collection.
