ReplayTV - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that's got to be the biggest crock of horse shit i ever read people
This. And I rarely watch TV these days (except for Clone Wars. Commercial break - change the channel, problem solved).
That's absolutely ridiculous. But it didn't do them any good anyway. People record the shows, cut the commercials out, and share 'em online. Look at torrents for example...
While I understand not wanting to watch commercials, it's generally a good thing. It's part of how the show is paid for, after all. Besides, they do put quite a bit of work into them, so it's nice to see what they come up with.
i just dont understand how it makes any sense for them to sue replay simply because they make it possible for the average customer to affectively have to their individual person the ability to decide wether they will or will not put up with commercials interupting their show as they record a episode of said show minus the commercial shit simply because replay signed a contrct to air their commercial shit does not in and of itself mean that the viewer theirself must be denied the ability to skip said commercial all together or for that matter mean the viewer must be forced agaisnt their will to watch siad commercial shit i see nothing wrong with a customer like myself exploiting what was at the time a possibly lega albut rather unspoken loophole on the matter as it were
yeah, when i worked for the cable company we weren't supposed to tell customers that they could fast forward through commercials using our dvr boxes. it's just one of those things. i'm not sure why this is news though when it's something that happened years ago.
Don't like commercials? Flip the channels. Don't like to flip through channels during commercial break? Tough.
Oh god, I've been a criminal for like 20 years!!! I used to have this thing that they had to stop making because it did those things. I could record TV and skip commercials with this feature called "fast forward" and if I gave the "tape" I recorded on to someone else, they could watch it for free! It's JUST like this device!
I don't really like commercials, I only pay attention to them if its a movie trailer/ teaser or a promo for a new episode.
Except most of them are absolute crap. If that's putting work into them, I would hate to see the lazy versions. I think it's fairly obvious that it isn't the concept of commercials for most people, but the lack of quality. Look at the Superbowl, there's lots of people who watch it *for* the commercials. Why? They're clever and entertaining. If ad makers would put actual effort into their projects, this wouldn't really be a big deal.
Yeah, but here's the thing; How many Viagra, Levitra, and all those other drug commercials that have long lists of side effects (including heart attack, stroke, and/or death) does one have to sit through to just enjoy a show? On top of that, networks have gone nuts shoving as many commercials they can. They chop up movies like crazy now, run the credits so fast and small, you can't even read them, start a new movie before the other one completely ended, shove ads on the bottom quarter of the screen while a show is playing, and animating them. It's really annoying.
Commercials pay for the shows but the real crime is that we still have to pay for cable in the first place. We're essentially paying to be advertised to, or paying for access to ads. The shows are just a vehicle for that.
I ditched TV a while ago in favor of streaming videos and torrents. When I watch hulu (when they don't allow one long commercial prior to viewing) or TV (parent's or friend's residence) I find commercials unbearably annoying as it breaks up my attention - something I was never bothered by in the past. I can't imagine going back to conventional TV and paying for it.
The easy solution is to drop cable, or get over it. I do wonder now if cable ads go for more or less than boradcast ads. My theory would be less, but my theory involves common sense, and generally the bigger a group is, the less common sense it has.
The 'crime' here was the machine skipped adverts automatically for you... not that you could skip forward yourself. Considering this happened years ago, and doesn't affect anyone, really some people are getting worked up over nothing.
Im older now, I kinda like the commercials . Always have to get up to pee, or get some food. Sit still too long in front of the tv & I fall asleep. I do wish seasonal dvd's had a 'skip intro/credits' option. Whenever I watch TF dvd's I usually skip over the intro theme & credits on every episode. Would be nice to just have them all (optionally) joined together. Just throw a toggle for it in the menu's , like they do with ' commentary on/off '
^ They sort of do that on Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles on BD, you can turn the prolog/recap on or off.
That's cool, wish they would apply that option to all of them. Hitting next on the remote's not that bad, it's just the remote likes to hide so much
