I rage. They just taken the original version and remade it with American accents. Even the dialogue is mostly the same. Several parts look like it's shot for shot with different actors. I really don't understand why you US punters feel the need to remake all of our shows in a comically sub par way. You had a go at Red Dwarf, The Office, Life on Mars and now Skins.
We're quite happy to watch and appreciate your programs based on the merits of the writing and acting. You don't see us doing "Stargate UK" where everyone's cutting about with cockney accents for example.
Yet for some reason whoever is in charge there seems to think that the US public can't appreciate a show if there's a foreign accent or culture involved.

    Wow really?
Nothing but a re-hased american version of the first episode of Series one. I figured it would be a stand alone story.

    And MTV is crap.

The only good thing on that network is Jersey Shore, and that's because some crap can be gold.

Personally, I think it's high time the UK gave their cousins across the pond a taste of their own medicine.

It's funny, imitation used to a form of flattery. Hell, some of the greatest political documents throughout history are chalk full of outright plagiarism. Now though, it's like someone raped the world if something based on original material is recreated. Oh how the times change.

There's a difference between imitation as flattery and out right copying a work for no reason. American Skins could be great if they take the basic concept and created their own show around it. Maybe throw in some references to the original material. It's a wasted opportunity.

Skins? Blech. An Americanized Jekyll would have been better. But not on MTV.

If I wanted to see debauched teenagers, I'd leave my house on a night.

And I did say it's crap. But sometimes, something can be so horrible that it's actually good...and that sadly IS jersey Shore.

I just have to laugh cause you're using opportunity and MTV together. Seriously, it's one mediocre show copied for teenage audiences. It's far from anything to rage over.

MTV UK has done British versions of MTV US shows like Cribs, Pimp My Ride, and Sweet Sixteen, among others.

Somehow they always come out a bit shit and miserable. Not nearly vapid and shallow enough. There just isn't a big enough gap between rich and poor to make them worth watching.

I seem to recall Jerry Springer did a UK version of his show at one point. But the UK guest fodder were just a grim bunch of chavs, not nearly as entertaining as the colourful low-lifes in the show's US heyday.

US version of "Skins" 'to tone down show due to child porn law concerns'

The US remake of Skins, the e4 television show that helped launch the careers of Nicholas Hoult and Slumdog Millionaire's Dev Patel, may be toned down after fears it could break American child pornography laws, according to reports.

Executives at MTV, who are broadcasting the US version of the show, which regularly depicts teenagers drinking, taking drugs and having sexual intercourse, have reportedly become concerned that some of the scenes may violate federal child pornography statutes, according to The New York Times.

They are said to be particularly concerned about the third episode of the series, due to be broadcast in the States at the end of the month. The scene in question revolves around the character Chris, played by 17-year-old Jesse Carere, in which he runs down a street completely naked. The camera stays on his bare bottom and was also a scene in the British version.

According to the US Justice Department, "a picture of a naked child may constitute illegal child pornography if it is sufficiently sexually suggestive". Anyone under 18 is consider a minor.

    ABSOLUTELY.

There is no point in remaking an already English language programme for a US audience unless you feel that cultural differences are so profound as to make the original incomprehensible. With SKINS this is quite obviously not the case. As was true for Life on Mars, and Red Dwarf and Coupling. The Office gets a pass only because it did use the original series as a jumping off point for it's own work.

Smkspy I have to disagree. Skins (UK) has nothing whatsoever to do with MTV and is all the better for it. It's a well written and funny show that occasionally dares to be a little more accurate about middleclass teenage life than normal without descending into 'Kids' territory.

I enjoyed it enormously simply because it reminded me very much of what my life was like at 16.

I'll pass on this kiddie porn. The Justice Department needs to throw the gauntlet down on MTV for this one. Even the most hardcore Hollywood defenders are veering away from MTV on this show.
