Not so much "sinkhole" as "portal to Stygian horrors."

That is just insane. I am amazed after seeing that there were not more deaths.

"Recent rains and an underground sewage flow from a ruptured main," is, naturally, florid bureacratic double-talk for "tunnelling antediluvian behemoths the likes of which have not been seen for eons but have now awoken to reclaim the planet."

Unless they buried their dead in the middle of a huge swamp, at least that one is pretty unlikely.

When a hole that big opens up in your town, it's time to move the hell away.

How does a ruptured sewer line carve out a 330 ft. deep hole? SHENANIGANS!

Yeah, I think it'd be about time to get the fuck out of Dodge.

As for the cause of the sinkhole, water flowing with enough force around an underground utility can erode the fill material around the structure. I would imagine, though, that some type of natural subterranean void already existed, and that the ruptured main/heavy rain only exacerbated an already deteriorated situation.
