Here's the second part of the Simon Furman issue #81 interview. It goes into a bit more detail of how the plot and characters would be handled:

The Allspark: Transformers News Movie Comics Animated - Allspark.com Interview with Simon Furman - Part 2

    Major points:

    * The reason Optimus is oblivious to the "big army of pissed off Decepticons massing" is because he's so shaken by his own death.
    * The carnage on Earth "makes All Hail Megatron look like the teddy bears’ picnic"
    * Return of Bludgeon, Galvatron, Megatron, Soundwave, Prowl, Grimlock
    * Characters killed by the end of #80 are still dead
    * Subplots: Grimlock goes off the rails trying to cure his Action Master condition. What happened to Scorponok's original head? What is the fate of Spike/Fort Max? What happened to the likes of Circuit Breaker and GB Blackrock?
    * Sticking to US continuity, BUT wants to bring Ultra Magnus into it and possibly the Wreckers
    * Simon envisions the characters close to their original 1980's G1 forms, but with Cybertronian alt modes
    * No Donny Finkleberg :p

I had a bunch of notes for a submission for a club prose story that would give an excuse to have an Energon Scorponok repaint as G1 Scorpononk. After all, his and all the other Headmasters left their original heads on Nebulos (or at least we never heard of them again after that mini). So we could have Scorponok back... even though it'd be the ruthless one from HM, not the one we grew to love. It'd make an interesting contrast, though...

How can they do that? Marvel owns circuit breaker!

If this turns into a human bloodbath then i'm out. We saw plenty of that in ahm and i really don't want to see it again.

So nightbeat and chromedome are the only living autobot headmasters left right? Did siren and hosehead live or did they die by unicron?

Can't wait for ultra magnus. Why the heck was he not in the g1 amercian books anyways?

never read the original run, but this sounds a lot more appealing to me than the current ongoing.

^ Fix this! Even more than a petition, brisk sales on IDW's Classic collections will show them we're out here!

Not sure where they'd have fit him in, what with Fortress Maximus and a very high-ranking Blaster and Grimlock in play. He was stuck as a "Future Autobot."

I've recently started reading the Marvel comics so I'm looking forward to this! Here's a comic series I might actually follow.

So we get a third alternate tangent for after the end of the original Marvel run ... only the second by Furman himself though.

He's not going to be writing as if G2 were canon.

Glad to see Furman wants to stick to the US stuff, his UK stuff always read like filler and he really seemed to come into his own when he was wrapping up the US run IMO. Ignoring G2 is also promising. It's probably better that MOST comics of the 90s are forgotten, actually....

I am pissed beyond belief. Why wouldn't Furman, of all people, follow the UK continuity? I mean, you'd think he would, considering he wrote most of it. My enthusiasm for this just took a nosedive. The fact that they're ignoring G2 ruffled my feathers a bit, but at the end of the day it wasn't a huge loss. Removing the UK stories, however, takes out a huge chunk of G1's soul. I mean, those stories make up damn near half of the material from the comic's run!

Wow, I've read both series and I don't remember anything... Is the US series that feature the original autobot and hi-q becoming Actionmaster Prime? How does the UK series end?

This all sounds interesting except for making Optimus sound like a woeful bitch for being killed.

But Hell everything else sound killer and I'd definitely read it.

I'm glad he's ignoring G2 and the UK stuff. G2 was a mess (he could totally integrate characters and concepts from it). The UK stuff... Didn't always mesh well.
