I can't believe there hasn't been a thread yet. Anyway, discuss anything about the games and such here.
That game is cool! Bought it when I saw the movie! I remembered screenshots of tha game when seeing the movie, so I thought "Hey... think I gotta get that game!" and it is really pretty cool! Pity graphics are poor, cos it's so old
just your childhood? it ruined my mind! do you know how straight jacket feels? rather warm actually. but still. thank you konami. ill make you suffer.
Remember stories about how when they were doing the vomit scene (or someother scene) in SH2 it was supposed to be more disgusting, but the power went out on the entire building so they had to redo the scene and took it as a sign that they needed to tone things down a bit. hehehe good times.
I remember playing the first one so many times that I actually got all the parts of the ray gun! I also remember thinking that even though the boss of the first game was possibly the devil, I was glad that he was not immune to my shotgun and would politely wait while I used my first aid kits. It reminded me of that Chuck Norris movie where the devil fell victim to Chuck's karate (of course!). Then there was the one puzzle that I was stuck on and PSM published the wrong solution! I had heard that the movie was terrible and just kind of got the DVD when there was nothing else to do. I was pretty surprised. I thought it was hella creepy and while it didn't follow the games' story in whole it did a great job of recreating the atmosphere. Plus: Sean Bean FTW!
The movie was good, people just love to hate. No game movie has stuck this close to the feel and atmosphere of the source material without going blatant, like Doom did.
I think you got two votes right there. I was surprised that people said it was so horrible. There were a few things to me that were definitely disturbing. And I don't mean "shocking" or "gross" -any horror movie can do that. Some parts of Silent Hill were downright disturbing.
What Pyramid did to one of his victims I hadn't seen in a movie before, but that's just me. I think the movie never became cheesy, and if felt like the game. I'd say it was a LITTLE toned down from the game, but it was not a PG13 movie. And yeah, Sean Bean FTW. I own that motherf@ker on PSPUMD, and Bluray. I love Silent Hill, except for Homecoming.
Personally, I love the Silent Hill series and I hope it does what it can to stick to its roots and not turn into an action title like Resident Evil. First off, nothing I have every played matches the feel of Silent Hill 2. Everyone seems a little off, as does the world itself, and it's really fitting in an uber creepy way. Otherwise, all the SH games were at least fun, with generally great soundtracks and atmosphere. The movie was great sans the overbloody ending. Not that the ending was bad, but the movie did such an amazing job of sticking with the games atmosphere that the ending's bloodfest was a little over the top. It also had some nicely horrific scenes that actually could creep you out WITHOUT using cheap jump tactics, like making everything quiet and then having something pop on the screen with a loud bang, which always annoys me. Yeah, what pyramid head did was pretty bad, but it was quick- the scene that got to me was when a certain character was burned alive. That's a terrible way to go and they show some nice little details. Anyways, Resident Evil was compared to Silent Hill back in the day, but of course RE has changed, and as good or as boombastic as a Resident Evil will get, I would gladly take a new Silent Hill over a new RE. And I know Homecoming got some bad feedback, but I enjoyed playing through it a couple times at least. The story and atmosphere was better then "The Room", which I thought was probably the low point of the series. (I know, originally it wasn't even planned to be part of the series) It had a lot of unique concepts but for every new, neat concept, they had something to bring it down. The hub apartment was cool until you had to keep healing the posessed parts and it stopped healing you. The ghosts that you had to use a special sword to put down was a cool concept, but unfortunately you had to keep the sword in them and you had a very finite supply. Leading around the girl was, well, just a bad idea but I liked how the way you treated her could alter the ending. Going to different areas was nice, until you got to the midpoint and had to go through all those areas again, escorting a girl while being chased by a maniac.
