A good friend of mine Sam Nickelson pointed this out to me so Credit is all his but did anyone else catch that while in the Dread freeway battle when Sideswipe went into his Stealth Force mode, he indeed went back to having a hard top?

just an error, may be in early production they included sideswipe to have a hardtop and changed due to budget.

no... he only has the hardtop in his stealth force mode... if you look frame by frame, youll see it raise up to cover him and fold away as he tucks all his weapons back away. That was meant to be like that for effect.

Probably for the better, something about a roofless car with giant cannons strapped to it just seems kind of silly. Not like, "this is so unrealistic." silly either, like "Seeing this makes me laugh my butt off and then I stare at it for a while and then I just accept it." silly.

also due to budget as in lack of budget? If anything they would have just left him internally as a hardtop if it was about budget. They had to pull away from the hard top 100% likeness as Mattel bought the rights to the Hardtop Concept for their toy line. So Hasbro had to use a new look in order to make toys for him. The repaints of his ROTF hardtop toys can still be used as Hasbro owns the rights to those but can not use the hard top likeness to make new toys. But the steath force mode is something different altogether. Its not a 100% replica of the Concept hardtop so if hasbro wanted to make a stealth force toy down the line with hardtop, they can.

I did, too. Something about the hardtop makes him look like an Autobot.

I remember seeing that a while back, but the only explanation I have is that ILM had already animated Sideswipe before the Corvette was modified.

I always thought something was off with that bit but I never could put my finger on it. I saw/noticed the hood...but didn't register it, nice...
