That is one of the main reasons I went ahead and sold my Rhino set and preordered the matrix set. I personally am glad to see that Shout Factory is taking the time to fix their mistake and provide replacement discs. This is something Rhino should have done with their stereo track mess up.

 

I noticed more mistakes in my dvds, and had bought them yesterday at 6pm.

 

I'm REALLY torn about the situation. Watching "Heavy Metal War" on my PC side-by side and here's what I see...

SHOUT:
+ Far fewer animation errors.
+ Missing scenes have been re-inserted, making for a better episode
+ Audio is unaltered
- Video is horribly interlaced, with many encoding errors
- Video is soft and jumpy

Rhino:
+ Video is crystal clear! Sharp lines, rich colors. In short, these look like new episodes, not 25-year-old ones.
+ Video has no obvious encoding errors. Steady frames, no softness whatsoever
- Animation errors are abundant (this being the worst of the episoides)
- Episode is choppy to watch due to the missing scenes, although audio lines up perfectly to the SHOUT version.

In short, neither is perfect, but both have their merit. I wish the best of both worlds were in one package, but sadly that's not true. It's like being forced to pick which of your children you like better...you can't (at least, I hope you can't   )

There's an old adage that states Compromise to be an agreement where both parties don't get what they want. These sets certainly fit the bill...  

 

Just got it yesterday

 

I took 9 screen caps from both versions of Episode One. The General PQ seems to be exactly the same. Here is one of them as an example.

 

I have a question: are these sold at Target? I heard somewhere that only Walmart would carry the season 1 box set. Has anyone found Season 1 in stock at Target?

 

It's sold at every major retailer in North America. It's not exclusive to anywhere.

Well I've owned my set for 2 days now and I like it. Same quality of video as Rhinos which isn't a bad thing, and then remastering the audio track into stereo and not adding in those asshorrible sfx's Rhino had just makes it even better. I have to say Shout has earned my business.

 

I wonder if when they release the corrected versions, if there will be a sticker on the package (or something, anyway) indicating that this is, in fact, the corrected version? I was going to pick this up, got a rain check for it from Target, but I don't dislike the Rhino version enough to go through the effort of picking this up and then sending in the incorrect version, and then having to wait for the corrected version to arrive. I think I'll pass.

Also, why does the Matrix Box Set (or whatever it's called) cost so much? Isn't $140 a little steep for the complete series?

 

Thanks for the reply!!! Yeaa i remember when i was a wee little lad i used to rent VHS tapes of transformers. So that quite a while ago so i wont be able to really remember how the quality was. I just thoughts i guess its up to me if i like it or not. We all are going to have our own opinions.

 

Definitely not the same video quality as Rhinos. Rhino's set was much clearer.

Pick it up? I ordered it from the Shout Factory website. This is the complete series Matrix edition, not the Season 1 dvd.

 

Sweet I wonder if our Matrix editions will be shipped soon then.

 

All that happened was his credit card was charged for his purchase. The website explicitly states that the matrix box sets will be shipped to arrive at our homes on July 13th.

 

This is all the mistakes I've caught so far on dvds of what I've seen, has anyone else noticed these.

2 star screams in transport to oblivion

Emblem of Megatron red at 3.33, not purple. at 4:34 red again on Megatron.at 6:42 no emblem on Megatron. red at 6:50.

Skywarp looked like starscream at 1:25 of roll for it.

Color emblem of Ravage wrong at 11:25 in roll for it.

16:15 of ultimate doom part 3 megatron's emblem wrong color.

 

For some reason I didn't catch that part. Thanks Shokara.
