He was thrown probably a good 50 feet in the air and when he landed he would smashed his head open how he survived is beyond me.

People have survived sky dives in which their parachute did not open, and have been ejected from their car and traveled considerable distances. I know a guy who was ejected from his car and flew a considerable distance, although I don't think it was 50 feet. Lost a couple of fingers, a concussion and needed a few skin grafts, but he survived.

Humans aren't as brittle as we'd like to believe. Plus he landed on his legs (hence the cast) so that broke his fall.

Well, depending on the severity of the fall. As it's been said, people have survived worse. But people have also died from less. Simmons was still needed in the story, so he was "only injured". Although, I was kind of hoping that his injury would be played for a more serious tone in the movie, rather than a comedic one as it turned out. You know, have Simmons paralyzed or something - play off the more serious, personal Decepticon threat, rather than "LOL he's got a broken leg and is whizzing around in a wheelchair!"

Because that would in no way be a dramatically arbitrary shift in character tone.

Because what DOTM was missing was more human drama.

I fell out of a third floor window (well, two floors and into an underground parking garage below) and I walked away with just a lot of really (and I mean really) bad bruising, so it can happen. I did get my fall slowed a bit by hitting a rail on the way down though.

And help sell the more "serious" tone that the movie was allegedly going for.

Many things in the movies summed up.

Well I'd rather have attempted serious human drama than attempted comedic human drama.

Well, I suppose that's lucky that you hit that rail.

    And :lol

I wouldn't really say these movies had a lot of human drama. They had a lot of Sam "drama".

    There's a difference.

I too think Simmons' injury would have worked better if it was played serious - it fits the tone they were supposedly going for. It's a little thing, really, but it's the little things that add up, for better or worse.

The human that Megatron flicked near the end of the 2007 movie probably should have died. Humans -- especially those who are action heroes -- are surprisingly resilient in feature films. :)

Fun Fact: That Human was none other than Michael Bay.

    Makes sense.
