Since we now know that "Prime" is a rank in Transformers mythology, shouldn't Grimlock be a "Prime"? I mean he is the leader of his own group of warriors and I believe he should have the rank to go with it.

    What do you think?

I'm going to say no because Grimlock is the type to play by his own rules rather than the rules of a Prime.

Grimlock may be a bit too selfish and unthinking to be a Prime.

I already think of Grimlock as a battlefield general, much like General Patton in WW2, so the rank of Prime (Supreme military commander) is rather unneccesary IMO.

    Prime (in G1 continuity) isn't a rank, it's a title.

Whats the difference? The title serves the purpose of showing one's rank. Just like President, General, and Sergant.

A title by your definition would be Mr., Mrs., or Dr.

Prime isn't just a military rank or a designation of general command of a specific, small group, it's a symbol designating the one true leader of the Autobots as a whole and the title giving to the one bot who was destined to be responsible for holding one of the most ancient and powerful artifacts in all the univers, the Matrix. There are many leaders in the Autobot ranks, and there always will be, for every sub-team needs their commander. But there is only one Prime, and that honor only goes to the one who holds, and protects the Allspark.

In essence, the title of Prime isn't like being a military commander or even "president", it's more akin to being crowned King. A single, powerful role and title passed on through generation after generation to those who are destined to be the one true leader of the Autobots.

Great explanation. I agree that Grimlock should never be called Prime, even in those instances when he was given command of the Autobots by Optimus Prime. Primes are chosen by a higher source, nothing less.

He shouldn't be called Prime because it's not his name. It's like saying the senior US Army general should have Obama tacked onto the end of his name.

    Rodimus Prime says hi.

Ignoring the Animated use of the name, "Prime" has always been a name associated with the one the Matrix chooses to lead the Autobots. If Grimlock were to be chosen by the Matrix to lead the Autobots, no matter for how long of a time, it would make sense for him to be considered a "Prime". But if it's just him taking command of the Autobots without the Matrix being involved, then he's still just Grimlock.

Meh, don't care what that delusional moron says. I don't think he's got time to say "hi" in between bouts of staring at statues and bitching.
O RLY? Please cite your source for this in the G1 cartoon.

Just cause you don't like him doesn't mean he's not a Prime.

No. No Prime should have a nugget sized brain.

Adding Prime to to his name will make him seem like he should be more responsible on the battlefied, and we all know Grimlock

If your meaning prime as in an overall commander? Then i say no. Because he is much too inbalanced to lead everyone. And for any other reason, i say no. "Grimlock Prime"?? what?

Well since the Matrix was used to change Hot Rod into Rodimus and Orion Pax into Optimus, wouldn't it be able to upgrade Grimlock well? I mean, he's already got the might, all he needs is some brains and he'll be good to go!

If the holder of the Matrix becomes Prime, shouldn't Ultra Magnus be one too? I know Optimus told him to keep it only until an Autobot "rises from the ranks", but he still served as Supreme Commander and possessor of the Matrix. Optimus must have chosen him for a reason -- one assumes he was in communion with the Matrix and the knoweldge of the previous Autobot leaders contained therein when he handed it over to Ultra Magnus. Additionally, Magnus received no upgrade and no title bump.

The Matrix chooses who will be a Prime, and no one else. The simple fact that UM couldn't open it shows that he wasn't chosen.

Never said it did. But you're pointing to one instance of someone in the G1 cartoon taking on the suffix "Prime." Alpha Trion didn't, which begins to undermine you point. And then...
