Truth be told I kinda miss this size class. I'm unsure why it was eliminated in the first place. What do you think? Would you drop some coin on some new ultra molds?

Truth is it works for Universe 2.0, so if they do a big Generations release, they should keep the Ultra class size.

I did like it for Classics because it allowed Hasbro/Takara to do some characters at a larger scale without dipping into the Leader size class, plus the electronics might've had at least a little pull with the kiddies. That said, I don't know if the Ultra class can be successful without more recognizable names for kids to fawn over, lights and sounds be damned.

I wouldn't be surprised to see it (and wouldn't mind seeing it) return via the Dark of the Moon line as a compromise between Voyagers that don't quite capture larger characters and the fact that Hasbro can't release six or seven Leader class toys a year.

I wish they had, a bunch of transformers lately could have benefited from a larger size. Straxus, Thunderwing, wfc megatron and a few others are way too small.

Yeah, I was thinking that with the Leaders being limited to three characters, ultras in the movie line might make sense. I would've preferred an Ultra Fallen or Blackout to the voyager and deluxe we got.

That would've been great for both; a "better than what we got" Ultra with Blackout/Grindor since he'd at least be somewhat taller (plus they could've added that electronic scream/squeal from the first film as his sound effect, assuming lights and sounds are added), and an Ultra Fallen would've been great since the Voyager was tall for its size class, so the Ultra would've added a bit of size and detail to the main villain. A Fallen toy with a Tony Todd "Now I claim your sun!!!" soundclip would've been a neat idea too.

I display my Ultras with my Alternators. They look too big and out of place in a CHUG display, IMO, at least the characters we've received so far.

That said, I'd be up for some more, sure.

I agree with what's been said. Thunderwing for one would've GREATLY benefitted from getting bumped to an Ultra Class figure. Lugnut could have been another (lights and sounds P.O.K.E.!).

It's defenitely a size class being missed in it's absence.

And from my view, they kind of took the old mega's title of being the "odd ball assortment".

In general, I don't view the assortment as terribly needed by the brand. To me, Ultras always seemed to sell on the weak side compared to Voyagers or leaders.

The only reason for the size class to exist, IMO, is to get a figure with electronics on shelves for less than a leader. But the issue becomes that at the $30-ish pricepoint, they are too expensive for impulse or even rare occasion buys, but if someone is going to spend big on a Transformer, the leader class offers more recognizable/marketable characters with more elaborate features. With the exception of a few Energon and Cybertron offerings, NONE of the post movie Ultras really struck me as being any more sophisticated than the Voyager class.
Only reason for the pricing (and to a lesser extent, size) was to fit some electronics, which usually hampered the toy (like Silverbolt's basic-level transformation)

As long as they're on the level of Onslaught, Powerglide, and Silverbolt molds, I'm all for it.

    Unless it's Wheelie.

The new Lugnut should've been an Ultra.

Personally, if they were to update another G1 mini-bot like Powerglide or Seaspray the obvious answer is Warpath. Tanks need to be big.

complete with "BOOM" and "Ka-blammie!" sound effects.

I miss 'em, and decided Voyagers are the next best thing afterall. Hopefully a few characters could be made in Ultra size, though.

    I miss them.
I'm not going to be buying them if they make them again.
But it was always nice to see toys I couldn't afford :)
