Should I call him on it?

    Ok, so here's the situation:

A little over a month ago, I helped a certain board member fix a problem he had. I won't go into specifics, but I went somewhat out of my way to help. I spent around $10 of my own money and invested an hour or two into it. I didn't want or ask for any type of compensation, and I told him this.

After he reviewed my work, he was so happy with what I did he offered me the pick of any TF in his "for sale" thread, even though he knew I didn't want anything in return. He had a couple cheaper figures I needed, so I accepted his offer and let him know which ones I would like, and I left it up to him to decide which to send. He agreed with one of my choices and told me he would send it.

Flash forward to now, a couple days short of a month since I last got a message from him saying he would send it out, and nothing.

Here's my problem: Should I bother him about it and make him keep his word, or should I drop it since I didn't ask for any compensation in the first place? It's really not a big deal to me, I'm just interested to hear some other viewpoints on this. Please don't mention his name if you know who I'm talking about, this isn't an attempt to embarrass anybody.

    Yes, you should.

You went out of your way for to help him. The least that he could do is hold up his end.

It's very possible he won't, he doesn't seem to come around much anymore.

    Nope.

You helped him out not seeking compensation.

    Leave it at that.

Though this post is essentially calling him out so...

I agree with drippy. You weren't asking for anything in return then, why should you now?

Well he offered some form of recompense for your efforts, which was accepted by both parties... I'd call him on it.

I know what you're talking about, you can't fool me.

I am sure you could find a polite way of asking if they still intend to do the trade. He made the offer so you are allowed to ask if it is still on. That's just my opinion though.

I wouldnt, you didnt expect compensation so why should it vex you that you didnt recieve any? Its pretty dirty on his part really. Lesson learned.

Yeah, if you have gone this far where he offered and you accepted, and you made your choice and he accepted and even agreed to send it out, you can just ask him about it

I'd say screw it and move on. Stick with your word, even though the other guy didnt.

    I would. Here's why:

You already explained to him that you didn't want anything. You made it very clear, correct?

He then went out of his way to offer it to you. To me, this is a completely different thing here.. the situation was resolved and everyone agreed to the terms.

Now this person put this out there.. if they had no intention of giving you anything, they shouldn't offer anything.

To me.. it's just like a lie.. or a promise broken..

it's so hard to explain as i try to rush..

Summarizing.. you said you'd do something for him. you did it.

He said he'd do something for you. he didn't.. he didn't come through for you. that's the deep underlying meaning behind this whole thing..

I would feel cheated.. not because i didn't get anything.. but because it was put out there .. and not from my own accord....

edit: i think the key word is trust here... i'd just follow up to re-affirm that this person is good at heart and was actually the same person i went out of my way to help.. and not some dude that used me.. and made up crap to make me happy.. only to let me down.

I would as well. Only because he made the offer to give to something. A promise is a promise.

Are you always this charitable? I wouldn't bother the guy about it though. Maybe he's been busy and hasn't had time to send it.

I would say no. Be the bigger guy and let it rest. Chalk it up to earned Karma credit.

Who knows, the person might end up sending it anyways.

After you picked out the item you wanted, did the person take it off his for-sale list? If you see it back on the list, then I would ask him about it.

That's a good question. He did not take it off the list, but he hasn't updated his list since before he even made the offer.
