Should I AFA even thought one of the tapes is broken?

Agrrrrr, I was looking forward to AFA my latest acquisition Vintage G1 MISB D69 Bruticus giftset. To my disappointment, one of the tape was broken. I think the tape was broken during the shipping process because the photos from the Ebay Auction shown it was sealed on both side and the seller verified it. Darn it, I paid big buck too.

I guess my question is, for investment purpose, should I AFA for the "Qualified Grade" or just don't bother it?

AFA now opens the boxes to inspect the condition of the toy for manufacturing defects. With the new rule, it might actually be better to AFA than leave it as MIB

I only collect MISB AFA Transformers. I would return the item for a refund. It was the seller's duty to get the item to you as described.

I don't think Qualified toys are worth "investing" in!

Yeah, you paid 880 dollars for a MISB Bruticus! Now that item is probably worth what 300? 400? Return and buy something else...

Return it. Seller didn't adhere to his description and should have done a better job packaging a $880 TF.

I just emailed the seller regarding the situation...didn't really comment about a refund. The reason was this purchase was made outside of Ebay to bring the cost down. Also, I did purchase from this seller before that's why I didn't really complaint. Darn it...looks like I got to swallow on this one.

So does a deal off ebay = buyer gets fucked?

    Wouldn't be me.

As a seller, I appreciate repeat customers.

Be happy with what you got. You know it was sealed.... so what's the difference?

Big difference... if you brought it for the sole purpose of getting it AFA'd... Or if you plan to resell it someday, what are you going to say?

"This auction is for a kinda sorta... was at one point... a MISB Bruticus that is now open because the tape broke".

Hey REMI,its all about how you look at it.You said the other tape is still holding it closed,
so for all intense and purposes this is STILL MISB even tho one piece of tape broke.Besides
AFA doesn't just grade for one piece of tape, they look at the whole thing and it may have
nicks or pings in the box that would be way more damaging than that one piece of tape
and wind up decreasing the value more than that. But its up to you to decide.Hope that
    helps.

If the factory tape is broke, it's not MISB.

AFA does grade just the tape. A Transformer on styrofoam will not get a red label if one/both tapes have been cut.

I understand that this is a big deal due of the price/value involved but its amazing how this debacle is over a 25 year old piece of tape (albeit, a very precious piece of tape) - when you really think about it. It's almost like the tape is more important than the figure itself! :peoples:

I'm glad I don't deal with this MISB business. It's nerve-racking enough to receive a Munitioner with a broken hinge. But nevertheless, my sympathies! :)

It's not amazing to a MISB collector. I want my collection to stand out. I have been collecting 5 years, and I still need 9 more. If I collected only MIB, I would have completed my collection in 1 year. I'd say the tape = the figure itself.

Kudos to you DL2W. Your collection is indeed awesome. Plus you have the balls big enough to withstand the stress of collecting these type of items. I don't have the money or the patience so I respect anyone who can put together a collection like yours.

Kudos, indeed. I still say that is quite a feat and on a different level than typical collectors. You will definitely have an amazing collection! I know that presentation is everything I and love to admire my figures in packaging, so it is relateable. :thumb

    $880 for a D-69 Bruticus MISB??????????????????????????

I don't even think the Takara Battle gaia 1992 operation combination gift set is worth that much on ebay in the past or present. and that is one of the more rarest of them all.
I was lucky to buy one then re-sell it years ago on ebay.

Yeah I'd try to return it & get my money back.

You over paid for a Bruticus transformers gift sets that got re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-released/issued of all time.

even the KO companies had there fun re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-released this gift set of bruticus
