I thought Prime should have stayed dead

This would be a great setup for Wheeljack and Hot Rod and Ultra Magnus.

Due the lack of any screen time for many of the robots, they should killed off some Autobots. Most likely Jolt, The Twins, Rachett and Prime...which would lead to new storylines and Robots

Killing Prime off but have him return in part 3, that would've been okay. Killing Prime off for good to make way for other Autobots? No freaking way.

Hasbro aren't going to let that happen again. I can see your point about making room for other characters, but in the minds of a lot of people Transformers = Prime.

    No!

Prime being dead does not work for me.
I hated that so much as a child, and I still hate it.

I wonder what the reaction of most fans in the audience was when they saw Prime die again. "No... not again... You bastards! Don't do this to me again!"

:gen069: :poke :throw  dude they did that in the 1986 animated movie and the backlash was enormous and Bay wisely avoided a repeat of that mistake and as for him comming back to life in part 3 that would have risked a massive turn off caused by prime's death and could have lead to poor ticket sales killing the 3rd movie what was done was handled very well

YES It did blacklashed with billions of dollars of profits for Hasbro and the movies.

Where would the Transformers cartoon and Movies and Toys be right now if Prime never dies in 1986? The Cartoon would have failed. Optimus Prime dying was a great thing regardless on how sad it was

Yeah, I agree that Optimus shouldn't be killed off - he's the TF flagship character.

  Hasbro was going to make loads of cash off the movie in toy sales in any case but what they did was kill repeat ticket sales and traumatized a lot of kids and killed alot of other animated movie going to theaters most noteably an Animated G.I. Joe movie which ended up airing as a 5 part episode on tv and they had originally planned to kill off Duke but after the mess with Prime's death they changed it to him being in a Coma, so no it wasn't a great it it hurt thousands perhaps millions of kids, cost millions in potential movie profits and actually took several movies down with him here is a link to a sight that does a nice job describing the backlash: Transformers: The Movie (20th Anniversary Special Edition) : DVD Talk Review of the DVD Video

Please no, I can still remember losing enthusiasm halfway through the film just because Prime died.

The only thing I can accept is Prime being damaged badly that he transfers the leadership to someone else like UltraMagnus.

Oh God No, Optimus is Transformers in my opinion. I understand him needing to be out of the picture for awhile so others can carry the burden but nothing permanent. I hated the 86 movie for that. Still do. I felt like that movie killed off all toys I had at home just so I'd have my parents try and get me new ones.

Also, kill Ratchet? The poor guy barely gets a line a film now you want to off him too? Jeeze. What the 3rd film needs is more non action moments for the characters so they can get a little more fleshed out. How does Optimus take his coffee? I'd like to know.

hehe, Bay being wise and avoiding a mistake.

But yeah, I think it's a really bad idea taking him out of the picture for other bots. We don't need no stinking Rodimus for TF3! I like Rody as a character, but he's just not Prime.

Prime should have stayed dead in G1 but not in ROTF.

There were other Primes all thoughout the history of Cybertron & the Autobots. But once Optimus showed up there could be no other Primes after him. This is one of the reasons why I hate this fandom.

Maybe Prime dying could have worked. The problem in the '86 movie was that they pretty much killed the entire old cast off.

Lets be clear. The original death of optimus prime made way for rodimus prime. The others could have just as easly been there without his death. I very much doubt that Hasbro made boat loads of money off of rodimus prime.

Should HAVE Optimus Prime been killed off? No

But you should HAVE learned proper sentence structure before posting a thread.
