Should Classics include other past lines?

This thought just occured to me. Hasbro seems to have reached a nice pinnacle in toy design for both forms. I think everyone would agree Bumblebee is an extraordinary example. I know G1 has like a million characters they could cash in on, but I wonder if they should expand Classics to other lines as well. They've already tried it with Primal and Megatron. Why not other beasts?

And god knows Armada could use redesigns. They would all be gimmickless, so a guy like Scavenger could get full articulation.

Good idea? Bad? So bad I should be taken out to the middle of the street and shot? Discuss.

When one thinks of classics, one thinks of the originals. G1 only, please.

Nah, no need for anyone to be shot in the street. :)  But yeah, I agree with JaviSRK, anything post-G1 hasn't really earned the label "Classic."

Personally I'd like to see a mixture of different lines in Classics.

No...at least not yet. Let it run as G1 for awhile and when they start scraping the bottom of the g1 barrel then maybe it should expand into BW, but not till then.

I agree that it should probably stick with G1-based stuff until it starts scraping around the bottom of the obscurity barrel (Y'know, Alternators syndrome)

The main problem with bringing in other past lines is most stuff from Beast Wars beyond is articulated and reasonably well designed (with exceptions of course) so a lot of "Classics" of those lines would be redesigning for it's own sake, and not a lot more.

I wouldn't mind seeing some bots from the "Japanese G1" series get the Classics treatment, i've also wanted some Headmasters stuff. Plus, who doesn't love Star Saber?

Then again, i'm a tool and would probably buy Cybertron repaints under the Classics line.

Some of the early (season 1) beast could use, but that's it really. Armada doesn't deserve an upgrade. But figures like Dinobot and Cheetor could really use a redesign instead of just the 10th repaints.

if it included Japanese G1 characters, then yes, I'd love it.

There are some Post-G1 figures that would fit well, as G1 characters. I.E. Cybertron Smokescreen as....Smokescreen, Armada Sideswipe as Runabout and Runamuck, etc.

I adored the "revision" Beast Wars Leaders, and feel there is a LOT of potential in Classics with not only G1, but in early Beast Wars.

While there is still a lot that can be done in Classics, I do feel that trademarks and simple figure variety will force Hasbro to go beyond the first 3 series of figures. And aside from a few Headmaster figures and comic characters like Thunderwing, Bludgeon, Jhiaxus and Nightbeat (plus Japanese guys like Star Saber and Victory Leo) there just isn't a whole lot worth redoing from the later years.

But "Neo Beast Wars" (Like the new mold Optimus Primal and Megatron figures) offerings of iconic characters like Rhinox, CHeetor, Waspinator, Tarrantulas, Dinobot, Rattrap and Blackarachnia (with a unique mold from Waspinator) would offer a nice bit of variety to the line and acknowledge the Beast Wars fanbase.
Maybe give us figures of Razorbeast (with his starring role in Beast Wars the gathering) and maybe "Cybertron Leo Prime"?

Not a chance in hell... Armada had its chance, and it sucked.

    Classics should remain G1 Redux.

I think classics should be g1, but I would like to see a line with a different name for Beast Wars redesigns like the primal and megatron revisions we got. Kind of a beast machines revisioning I guess as the beast modes will look much more machine like. Primal and Megatron have a very technorganic look to them. Much better than the actual designs i think.

I dunno...on the one hand, I think there's plenty of G1 characters that deserve a new lease on life...but on the other hand, I wouldn't mind a couple of classics based on Armada - particularly Hot Shot. I'm sure that a designer that wasn't high on crack could do something good for him. And I'd rather see classics based on established characters than ones based on G1 no-namers (see Alternators Swerve, Rollbar, Ricochet, etc).

Fair enough question, but a moot arguement. They're called "classics" for a reason, as evidenced with all the characters they've released & announced thus far.

Speaking of them being called Classics, has anyone noticed that it does not actually say "Classics" anywhere on the packaging? That only occurred to me when I called a store asking if they had any in stock, and the guy on the phone was like "What are you talking about? We have something new called Robots In Disguise but nothing that says Classics". Then I looked at the packages of my deluxes, and sure enough, they all say RID. Could make things confusing for people trying to do phone-in checks or orders.

I say let the Armada and other line fans wait another 20+ years like G1 fans had to in order to see good incarnations of their favorite original characters. It's only fair. ;)

No there are boatloads of G1 characters that probably wont get the classics treatment that should lets wait and see if we actually get anymore than the 11 so far before we start worrying about other lines.

Now that I've thought about it a bit, I'd happily take a new BW Blackarachnia figure, considering the Beast Machines version is the only one that didn't suck IMO.

BRRR, I think a mixture of different lines in the Classics would make it too similar to TF Universe. It's already getting close with the Energon recolor Devastator. G1 only please. I think most of G1 Season 1 should be done as Classics.
