It just seems that the longer the aesthetics for the CHUG and their ilk the more the name will be confusing or simply grow too large.

So I'm curious what people would think to the idea of re-nicknaming this era G3 or maybe G4 or 5.

    What would you prefer?

CHUG is fine. I don't see why so many people dislike it.

G3 would work, except that there's not really any fiction specifically designed to accompany the toyline(s) like there was with the comics.

Yeah, I actually would have preferred a consistent ongoing series just called Generation 3... or G1 Redux... or whatever. Just something nice & concise. Once Classics & Henkei morphed into Universe, Generations, United, Hunt for the Decepticons, Reveal The Shield, etc. every second month, it just became terribly irritating imo since all the G1-inspired figures were/are clearly meant to be apart of the Classics-verse. Or so I thought until I encountered one dude on the forums who wouldn't buy Seaspray or Grapple because their packaging said "Hunt for the Decepticons" on it, so therefore in his mind, that meant that they were actually just movie based homages similar to the crappy Hoist & Beachcomber movie figure repaints as opposed to being figures CLEARLY meant for the Classics-verse collectors. Or something to that effect. It was insane either way.

As it is, though, I just call them ALL Classics to make life easier. :)

I never liked CHUG, but I don't really hate it or anything. I just call it Classics.

Fansproject agrees with the name of their trailer for Classics Prime. :)

Just "Classics" is fine for me though. CHUG sounds like it involves a pint of beer somehow. Or trains.

Okay, fine. I was just curious.

This is exactly the reason this question popped into my head. I think I would prefer to call this G4 but that's not really my call, nor do I care all that much. Just seemed like it would be a nice unifying title that harkened to a previous era. I guess Classics will do for me.

    So I guess thread over.

it would be cool to call it G3 if we had a cartoon to go with it.

Classics is good enough, CHUG doesn't work as an acronym anyway since Henkei only had toys released in classics and universe.

Besides, if you go with that acronym shouldn't there be another U and RTS in there somewhere?

I'll stick with classics, they are classic characters reinvented for a modern audience. (besides, on some of the Universe packaging they refered to the characters being 'classic series' as Acid Storm shows below:
Acid Storm - Toy Gallery - Photo #3

I would consider calling it G3 over CHUG, but there would need to be some sort of fiction to go along with it to justify the name.

Acronyms work because they're easy to say, not because they are all encompassing.

G1 is OVER... toywise. since this is a toy discussion, that should be stated.

Classics, G3 and hell, CHUG all work. Call it whatever you want... G2 did not have an original cartoon, only comics. And plenty of CHUG designs have made it into the latter day comics. To me, that puts them on equal footing.
