Drift has been given a dark new paint job. Starting with robotic part drybrushing for realism, a new color scheme of black and blue was given to his vehicle and robot mode. His Samurai inspired armor has even been distressed to show its wear. Drift now dons a more traditionally inspired kabuto mask, and a fifth sword, larger than all his others. The new sword sits snugly between the other four on his back. IDW Drift was one of my favorite characters, and what they did with the character in the movies was straight up insulting. I wanted to try to bring that feeling of Samurai tradition to the character's aesthetic. Changing the face from something boring and borderline offensive to the intimidating mask made all the difference in my mind. As such I have affectionately called him Shogun Drift.
