He was a major player in both the original G1 comics and the Dreamwave comics, but so far has only really appeared in his own Spotlight issue and the Maximum Dinobots mini series. What is going on with this character?
Yep. Sounds like Optimus and a team of characters come together to fight him. From the RiD #6 Solicitation: More Shockwave is always a good thing.
Well, he was buried on Earth for however many hundreds of thousands of years. Tends to bench a dude. I'm pretty confident that Barber has plans for him in RiD, however. There've been more than a few hints and nods that Shockwave, Soundwave, and Bombshell as the Decepticon Braintrust, are definitely up to something.
Metalhawk is a jerk, Prowl sucks at one-liners, and Bumblebee is one stress-headache away from dying of a stroke. Couple that with Soundwave being equipped with the fattest of beats and yeah... Autobots gon' get serv'd.
Considering that there are no real Villians in the TF universe right now. Shockwave should be an ongoing threat. Not something easily wiped out like Ratbat or Horribull. So my take on his absence is that if writers can't think of anyting substantial for him to do then just leave him be until something comes up. Throwing the villian out there just for the hell of it is the reason I stopped reading X-men.
Isn't scorponok still running around? Can't remember if he was off'd in Maxi dinobots or not. If hes still kicking I'd love to see him return to the forefront.
I can easily see that as being Optimus's new mission in life: making sure that the Transformers on Cybertron get a chance to build a new government without Megatron or Shockwave types wrecking stuff. Granted, the Cybertron TFs have their own problems, but that's nothing new in society. Speaking of Orion Pax, I just want to take the time out to say how much I've come to dislike the name - I would have greatly preferred it if he had just been known as Optimus before he became a Prime.
Whaaaa?! I love the name, it sounds so noble to me. What has made you dislike it? Do you prefer Dreamwave's "Optronix"?
Neither - I prefer just Optimus, as a matter of personal preference, primarily because it was the character's first, onscreen name, and it makes more sense, especially if Prime is a title.
I agree, when the guy makes his move, it needs to be awesome. Although I would argue from what I have read so far is that we do have a villain emerging - Spoiler Prowl .
So latest IDW preview has Prime and a buch of Autobots going after Shockwave! IDW will either make amends for what Bay did to Shockwave in DOTM or make exactly the same mistake and kill him again.
....that's an interesting point that earlier poster makes. Where the hell IS Scorponok? Last we saw him was when Ultra Magnus apprehended him. We assume he was in G-9, but if so, did he get broken out by Shockwave, or maybe even the Autobots kept him somewhere for study? He's someone who I'm surprised we haven't seen at all.
