More amazing...someone actually bought MacGyver on DVD.

Macgyver rocks. A little ludacris sometimes, but over all very enjoyable.

The episodes before it had MacGyver helping a childhood acquaintance look for the Holy Grail... sort of. It was called the temple of the Holy Rose or some crap like that. Great line from MacGyver when the grail is first mentioned he says "I think Indiana Jones already beat you to it."   Later there is the most ridiculous midevil laser. The idea of it is goofy enough with out the really cheap special effect of the laser. Basically it was a golden mirror that would shine light into a basketball sized sphere (that unfolds into a flower) It would hit a giant ruby about the size of a soft ball (look so obviously made of red transparent plastic) it bounces around through the ruby and off the golden side building up power, comes out a hole travels through the crystals onto of three scepters. Yeah really far fetched added with crappy special effect.

But early in the first episode he made a ultralight out of bamboo, trash bags, duct tape, and a propeller attached to a cement mixer engine and flew a guy to safety.

 

Ludacris is a rapper. MacGyver was ludicrous.

It is a show from the mid 80'd to early 90s. MacGyver is a secret agent for a group called the Pheonix Foundation. He never uses a gun. He relies on his wits and scientific/mechanical knowledge. Basically might do something like mix a few chemicals together and make a smoke screen, use candle wax and chalk dust left a fingerprint from a glass and use it to defeat a fingerprint scanner.

Basically he takes stuff he finds lying around and use it to accomplish a task. He often uses his Swiss Army knife and a roll of duct tape. Ahh the power of duct tape.

True, MacGyver never used a gun, (Didn't he have to in one episode but was scared of it?) but eventually becomes Colonel Jack O'Neill (Stargate SG1) and never does anything WITHOUT a gun and never uses his wits or scientific/mechanical knowledge. (Samantha Carter has the brains).

I remember that episode when it origonally aired. I wished I had those Shackwave guns. Sadest thing is that they were probably thrown out or buried in some Props storage area, never to be seen again

 

Basically he never uses one because of a childhood accident. He and three friends were about 11 or so and took a gun and bought some bullets. They were target shooting a tin cans. One kid didn't want to shoot it and stood off to the side. The kid who was shooting started to aim for a hawk or eagle. MacGyver knocked the gun out of the kids hands, it flew back, hit the ground and fired. The bullet hit the kid standing off to the side. He later died. Hence MacGyver's distaste for guns.

Did watch one episode this morning where MacGyver dreams he is in the old west. All his friends are there. MacGyver gets a ride to the town with an old man. As thanks he gives the man his gun explaining he doesn't need it. The man in exchange gives him a knife he made back in his home country of Switzerland.. you guessed it. A Swiss Army Knife. Only instead of the red plastic, it has wooden sides. Still had the two blades, corkscrew, etc.

Only other times I've seen him use any sort of gun were two times. Once he used a machine gun and set it up to fire at the ground as a decoy. The other he used a pistol (he emptied it out) as a hammer (or as he calls it "Using a gun the correct way")

 

MacGyver is amazing he will always be my hero and even more now that he has his hands on Shockwave!!!!!

 

MacGyver rules.

 

I think he did use a gun once - but not to shoot someone, just as a convenient bit of metal in one of his contraptions.

 

Transformers and MacGyver - two of the best things in life. This post literally made my day! So sweet! Must get Shockwave since MacGyver has Shockwave!

 

I got all of the episodes on DVD too! MacGyver was one of the best shows ever made. The physics and science involved were awesome. He was probably one of the best role models for a kid growing up in the 80s.
