Well, here it is. I have a few more paint aps I want to do, but I' pretty darn happy with it.
very nice indeed! best one Ive seen yet! does it have a red led in head?
Not yet, but I didn't seal the head shut in case I wanted to later.
That would complete it I think! great work
Nice! I see customs like this and it makes the store one look silly with all that purple. Great Job.
yeah what was the purple about?
Thanks for the comments!
I dont really know electrical work, so if I do an LED, it may not end well.
As for the original purple, I think they were appeasing G1 fans.
For this, I used Testors, Krylon and Reaper. Its based with a dark beaten metal, then a metallic purple, then steel and chrome for highlights. Theres a deep brown wash for depth, then added metallics.
Oh yeah, here's a rundown of the mods done:
-Ball joint wrist (still transforms)
-Filled in the hollow spots of the arm blade and added small blades to the tip.
-Carved out elbow area to allow for more movement.
-Carved under shoulders to eliminate troll-esque pose.
-Sanded out the back of the neck to allow for more head movement.
-Removed right hand and cut it up to create a melded appearance. Also, sculpted and added putty to the arm/cannon fusion point, and added extra details with styrene and extra parts.
-Cut the barrel to mimic the flared ends.
-Extended the hose and added a connection point. The pipe is about 3/8-inch longer, and really adds to the posability.
-The legs were a pain. I cut everything off that would be in the way, like the original foot and horns, as well as the mount points for the cannon and arm.
I added a double-ball joint to attach the scratch-built foot, with the toe horn situated on the center joint. I also added scratch-built ankle horns (immobile).
When transformed, the foot forms a side blade reminiscent of RotF Megatron's tank wings.
That was part of the original plan, but when I went to add bulk, it ended up looking like bulk rather than as part of the design.
Yeah, the lack of beefyness in the original mold is a bummer, but hopefully that'll be rectified by a leader class figure (HEAR ME HASBRO!!!).
Very nice work, all the mods you did on this are stunnin, I especially like the custom feet and melded hand to cannon appearance. The repaint is awesome as well. The colours worked out really well
What do you mean "what's the purple about"? WHAT'S THE PURPLE ABOUT?
WHAT'S THE PURPLE ABOUT?
IT'S SHOCKWAVE, IS WHAT THE PURPLE'S ABOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(grumble dagnabbit youngsters nowadays....grumble...no sense of history...grumble grumble....worn metal and realism...ugly is what it is....
give me bright gaudy purple anyday of the week....grumble grumble grumble...next thing you know, they'll ask why he only has ONE EYE!.....)
^that made me lol for real!!
Damn, best shockwave I've seen yet.
kickass work, dude.
loving the colors used.
Agree. This is very realistic. Really like the purple nuance with the metal worn effect. Not to mention the additional modifications you added.
paint seems a little thick but this is a really cool concept, i do like it
Thanks for all the comments!
The paint honestly isn't thick at all. In hand it's very light. I wanted a bit of a texturizing effect, so the base coat is a beaten steel-color that is naturally texturized.
