As a Holmes fan, I see that they decided to give this version a more kickass twist just to attract more fans. And it looks like the plan's doing excellent!!!

    Elementary, my dear Downey.

I don't know much about Sherlock Holmes, or have much exposure to the character, but the film looks good and I'm planning on seeing it; possibly opening weekend. I'll have to see how the reviews shake out before I make a firm decision, though.

I may or may not see it, for one thing Irene Addler was never a love interest of Holmes and was only in one story. So having her as the typical Hollywood action girl doesn't quite fit with Holmes's history. I've always seen Holmes as more along the lines Jeremy Brett or Basil Rathbone(Both of Whom did great jobs), Robert Downy Junior doesn't quite fit the bill. This is the Hollywood extreme version of Holmes, which they tried with young Sherlock Homes and it didn't go over well. But these days it'll probably work.

With only the most basic knowledge of Sherlock Holmes to judge this movie by from what we've seen. It looks okay. Pretty good, actually.

They filmed this in my office. All the scenes from the Houses of Parliament are actually Manchester Town Hall.

The shot where the guy jumps out of the window in the trailer? I watched them film that.

And my co-worker bumped into RD Jr. on her way out of work. Nice guy apparently.

However I'm still not going to see it, Guy Ritchie is shite.

It's based on a comic book.

As a fan of the old Sherlock Holmes serials, featuring the aforementioned Basil Rathbone, seeing Holmes all "actiony" just doesn't click with me. It looks like a fun movie, but it doesn't look like a good Sherlock Homes movie. I'll probably see it the same way I see most other movies, when it comes out on TV. Though as of late, RDJ seems to be able to do no wrong so I'm sure it'll be entertaining.

As a fan of the books, I don't have a problem with it (Conan Doyle wouldn't have either). Holmes and Watson could both kick some arse when needed, so I don't have a problem with that making it into a film.

Well the big problem is that quite a few Holmes stories have been made into kids books. Which means the stories where Holmes and Watson do a lot of face wrecking either aren't published or are sanitized.

Yeah, Sherlock Holmes and the Adventure of the Spilled Pint is an often forgotten classic.

When I first saw trailers for this, I kind of rolled my eyes thinking it was just banking on RDJ's Tony Stark only with a British accent. But then I decided to give it the benefit of a doubt because he's got enough sense not to play that game to avoid type casting.

Or at least, I hope he's got enough sense...

Apparently you're not as familiar with the books.
