I could imagine this being a fun movie. I hope it will be. The Rock is usually also very good in comedies. While I also wonder if he's the next Will Smith and playing EVERYTHING nowadays, I still somehow like him mostly. Although I think he looked better before he turned into a big hunk of muscles and still had a haircut. I mean, he already was pretty muscular before...
RUMOR: SHAZAM Starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson To Begin Production February 2018 Rumored director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle: Creation) has now signed on to helm the film, with Henry Gayden (Earth to Echo) writing the script. Originally, SHAZAM was supposed to be one movie but was later split into two, one being a Black Adam standalone starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the titular villain, who is also the main villain for SHAZAM. It is also being produced by New Line Cinema, a subsidiary of Warner Bros., and The Rock's very own Seven Bucks Productions, but it's been confirmed that the films would take place in the DC Extended Universe. Interesting. I hope to see some tie-ins to Wonder Woman, since both features and heroes involve gods.
Director David F. Sandberg Talks About SHAZAM! And How Billy Batson "Gets To Become Superman" "To keep it general and not go into script details I'd say the core thing that's appealing to me is the wish fulfillment," said Sandberg. "What kid doesn't want to be Superman? This is a kid that basically gets to become Superman."
Director David Sandberg Speaks To Finding The Proper Tone And Getting To Know The Rich History Of SHAZAM "This will be very different than what I've done in the feature space, because it's not a horror movie and it's a much lighter tone," Sandberg explained. "But it's something that I look forward to trying out, even though I plan to return to horror in some fashion. My background, back in Sweden, before I started doing horror shorts, I was doing animated comedy shorts. It's not totally alien to me to have more of a comedy approach. I look forward to taking that on in a feature." Sandberg said of New Line, "They've been awesome. I will keep making movies with them as long as they want me."
SHAZAM Director David Sandberg Is Only Joking But His "Script" Might Actually Be Perfect For The DCEU LOL
SHAZAM Director On Casting Two Different Actors As Billy Batson And Shazam; Production Beginning Soon The filmmaker has now confirmed that the movie won't use de-aging technology to turn whoever plays the titular hero into a child (and vice versa). "I wouldn’t want to do that. That seems like way too much of a hassle. They’ve done quite well, I thought Kurt Russell was in the latest Guardians was really well made, but I think there’s a limit to it as well. You probably can’t do someone to be a kid. Why create that hassle for yourself?" I'm amazed they thought of de-aging VFX for one character. It's impossible with a child, not to mention awkward. Still, this sounds good IMO. Maybe this director can give us something as good as what Patty Jenkins did with Wonder Woman.
REPORT: Shazam Eyeing Cena, Sasse; Billy Batson Character Bio Revealed Warner Bros. is eyeing WWE superstar John Cena and Galavant alum Joshua Sasse as frontrunners for the role of Capt Marvel. Billy Batson description: "Male, 12-15 years old. A teenager who becomes Captain Marvel, the world’s mightiest mortal. Granted access to incredible powers by the wizard Shazam, he speaks the wizard’s name and is struck by a lightning bolt that gives him the powers of the gods."
John Cena isn't actually a bad choice. He can definitely do the corny superhero voice. However, it would seem way too gimmicky to have him fighting The Rock's Black Adam.
