So I was thinking, how bout we start a thread where we can list our favorite comedians, why theyre funny and where we can get more of them. Ill go first:

Seinfeld- funny cause its true how people just sit around talking about nothing
George Lopez- funny cause his life experiences are very close to mine
Ron White- Funny cause its an old man that seems so cool
    Sarah Silverman- she's just hot
Dave Chapelle- comes up with crazy stuff

I second Dave Chapelle and Goerge Lopez.

    Some of my favorites:

Lewis Black. (Tell it like it is, only sarcasticaly and with more swears)
John Pinette. (Gives "Fat Jokes" new meaning)
Brent Butt. (not ROFL hilarious, but really funny)

Have to mention Luis Black. An amazing comedian with a "fuck you" attitude and thats why I love him.

Mitch Hedberg (RIP). Funny stoner comedy

Dimitri Martin. Just a funny dude with lots of talent. Still young, I hope he has a long successful career.

Dave Chapelle. Man he has some funny stories. I love the one about the crack dealing baby in the hood.

Jim Gaffigan. Kind goes into left field about nothing in particular.

Chris Farley. Not a stand up but man I love watching his old SNL skits.

A few others but those stand out the most.

Dan Whitney, AKA Larry the Cable Guy. While the act in itself is funny, I find the people who dress like him and have GIT 'ER DONE on their Trucks even funnier. But then again they probably think wrestling is real too.

Tim Allen- can't beat the classics? Home Improvement is still one of my favorite shows, and it isn't like he's terrible.

The japanese 'Downtown' duo (Matsumoto Hitoshi and Hamada Masatoshi). Look for 'gaki no tsukai' and 'don't laugh punishment game' at youtube. They have the funniest sh*t in Japan.

I also like Shimura Ken (from the legendary quintet 'the drifters') for his old-school humor and the '99' duo (Okamura Takashi and Yabe Hiroyuki).

My favorite weekly japanese comedy shows are 'Gaki no Tsukai Yarahen De' (Sundays, usually 11:30pm ~ 12:00am), 'Mecha Mecha Iketeru/What a Cool We Are' (Saturdays 7:00pm~8:00pm) and the yearly Shimura Ken's 'Bakatonosama' (in the New Year's holiday).

    Fixed for accuracy.

Carlin's my favorite comedian because he's versatile. He does satire, dark humor, sarcasm, observational (which I usually can't stand, but Carlin makes it work), language-based comedy, off-the-wall bizarre stuff and virtually everything in between. I have all of his albums, several of the DVDs and have been to his live shows twice. At the most recent performance I attended, he announced that he'll have a new HBO special out in Spring 2008 and brought out some of the new material.

    - Ron White does a bit too much observational stuff, but I like the darker edge to his comedy and he's the only reason to tune into the Blue Collar movies that Comedy Central rebroadcasts endlessly.
    - I don't mind Carlos Mencia in small doses, but can't watch more than five minutes of his show.
    - I liked Dennis Miller's rants and SNL appearances, although and the rants don't age well.
    - Phil Hartman was quite versatile as well, with stand-out work in SNL, Simpsons and NewsRadio.
    - If they count in terms of this discussion, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. They handle satire very well and not just in the "we'll just throw out insults and then write it off as satire" manner that a lot of modern comedians do. I list them mostly for South Park, but stuff like Orgazmo and BASEketball were good too.

I've watched, I still don't understand. Probably why 99% of the real comedians out there hate him.

    As for my list:

    Andy Kaufman
    Artie Lange
    Dave Attel
    Reverend Bob Levy
    Jim Flourentine
    George Carlin
    Greg Fitzsimmons
    Sam Kinison
    Gilbert Gottfried
    Craig Gass
    Bob Schimmel

And some more I'm probably forgetting. Seen all of those except Kaufman and Kinison live too. (Since they were both dead long before I was of age to see em :(  )
