Shane McCarthy has posted on his blog on the topic of Drift.

You can check it out here: Why Drift? — Shane McCarthy

I really like Drift's early design. Not too long until the Drift mini-series comes out! :D

I'm looking forward to this. Drift is one of my all-time favorite toys, so it'll be nice to find out more about his character.

Kind of sad that he had to go the store to buy a toy he helped create.

I'm interested in this, since maybe it might make Drift less of a Mary Sue type character some fans keep on insisting he just is and reduce the complaining about him (I don't expect the complaining to stop, since I do agree this should have come out sooner, really)

At the same time, that puts him on the same playing field all of us TF hunters are on. Even if he only owns a few Transformers, he still went out, and did exactly what we all do. I kinda like that, and kudos to him.
    Shame on you, Hasbro. Shame.

I wish they were able to have worked in that design of the spoilers becoming his heel spurs. I think I'd like the figure more if it could do that.

As I understand, relatively few people involved with Transformers get freebies from Hasbro, Takara/TakaraTomy or whomever they happen to be working for. I believe this goes for Hasbro's employees as well to a certain extent.

Either way, there's probably Transformers creative people who have contributed a lot to the franchise, but who have never had the chance to create their own "pet" character, let alone get that character made as a toy, especially not this soon after creation. For example, Straxus, created by Bob Budiansky (one of the fathers of Transformers fiction), appeared only briefly as a villain created specifically for Blaster to defeat in a story arc, but stayed in the memories of fans. It took 25 years to get a toy made.

So McCarthy should be thankful he didn't need to wait that long for his creation to immortalised in plastic form :)

I see he's still getting flak about it, even in the comment section of his own blog.

Nice to see the early design sketch. Would've been perfect for a repaint as Pointblank. I really like it, but the revised version is definitely a big improvement. Whatever your thoughts on the character, Guido did a top-notch job on the design.

yeah, in some ways the toy doesn't fully do the design justice. I do actually like how the leg transforms though.

Yeah that first comment is great, and his reply is excellent. I don't care about the Drift debate, but f, this is is classic. Such tension from both sides:

The fact that they are giving ShitCarthy and his joke of a character drift so much limelight goes to show IDW is grasping at straws.

dritft and the majority of his stories are worse than some fan fics, and that's even on his best days.

It's a shame folks buy into that drivel and legitimize it, but that's IMO.

yeah, this. its just not the way the world works. unless you retain ownership of said creation and was directly involved in the merchandising process youre likely to get the merch like every other schmoe.

Yet if the Drift toy had been created first and then appeared in McCarthy's comic stories then there wouldn't be any backlash against Drift.

    Word, yo.

Given the kajillion other characters that could have filled that role and thusly get a long overdue update would have been radsauceawesome.

Meh, IDW's Autobots are defenders, like they always are, just more pragmatic about it. So that reasoning is kinda bleh for me (I don't read IDW and I know more than McCarthy dsajkfhsgdfkagdefsa:drunk )

If he's sincere about his feelings of Drift in that robot heroes book, well, my respect for him would shoot up a significant amount.

Maybe he was hoping that by doing so, it would have encouraged Hasbro to make a Robot Heroes Drift.

The only reason I'm interested in the Drift comic is for the Lockdown appearance. Still waiting for reviews first.

While I have comics on the brain, mental note to self: GO PICK UP LAST STAND OF THE WRECKERS TRADE ON LUNCH TODAY. :)

IDW is one of the worst things to happen to the fiction.
