Those pics make Drift look even cooler! I look forward to the toy coming out, here's hoping he poses as good as he looks!

Drift looks pretty sweet. I was actually kinda hoping he'd end up a Decepticon (from the other pictures it was hard to see what side he would e on). I'm kinda interested to see how well he'll translate into toy form, but there are plenty of other figures I'm more interested in seeing (25th Ann. Hound for example).

That 'Defeat' cover for issue 4, I think that's Ratchet (or Ironhide).

Is anyone else thinking hybrids or alternity for drift? Cause I'm getting a weird vibe like that.

Wow, loving both thwe cover and the new kid... LOve the design of Drift, although it sucks because I know we'll probably never get a figure for it

Cover is very haunting... I think it is Ratchet, but we'll have to wait and see.

At the panel IDW said Drift will be the first IDW-made character to be turned into a toy by Hasbro. :D  :D

I'm sure whatever his role is, there was already an existing Transformer with a toy who rarely or never appears in the comics that could have fit the same role.

There's hundreds of characters with toys and many will not be used without resorting to creating new guys - who I consider to take up a slot that could have gone to someone with a toy. I don't care if its the most obscure Japanese character that many people won't have heard of before - its still a character with a toy.

Well if thats true, then I can accept that. Its just that I consider the toyline and the fiction extensions of each other.

Hmm... Drift, eh? Looks good. But... I'm not a fan of Hasbro. Having been screwed over enough times with their terrible paint jobs and quality parts, I won't be considering to get it. Now if TakaraTomy picks it up... then I'll consider it.

Its a joke. His name "Drift" (the whole 'drifting' Fast and Furious sub-culture), the fact he's a ricery japanese car with ricery decals (Nissan Silvia), the robot design incorporating a samurai motif (helmet and those things on his hips) and how he was apparently described at IDW's SDCC panel as "Japanesey"... gives me the impression of Drift here being a japanophile stereotype/stereotype of japanese pop culture made into Transformer form. :D

Drift looks like a Gundam with car parts bolted on like it were trying to disguise itself as a Transformer. :lol

That said, the design is pretty slick looking if not terribly imaginative in transformation. The backwards facing car front halves does look very good though and there's some sorta jet booster under the bonnet.

I wouldn't really call him ricery, this looks more like a legit drift racing car, what with the sponsorship decals all over the place and the body kit that actually looks practical. The "DRIFT" written in katakana is a bit overdone and reeks of wapanese (I've seen the same thing on a Magnaformer) but otherwise it looks like your everyday pro racing car.

And really, samurai elements have been parts of Transformers forever. The original toys, much like Gundams before them, carried a lot of samurai elements, particularly in helmets. Bludgeon was a giant skeletal samurai. Even Animated Ratchet has a bit of a samurai-ish look with his helmet shape, chevrons and arm panels... and let's not forget Samurai Sidecar Prowl. I really don't see as many samurai elements on Drift as some have said.

Note the "BINALTECH INC." on the rocker panels . . .

Just random a "sponsor", but who knows? :)

Well those baby arms and giant legs are certainly very "Japanese" :)

Looks neat. In b4 "waist kibble" (I think).
