    Shady Sony Shennanigans? Assassin's Creed

IGN was forced to take the article down. It used to be here: http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/708/708431p1.html

IGN usually issues a retraction or correction if their articles are incorrect.

Edit: Crap. Title was supposed to say "Assassin's Creed"

If I was sure that game was coming to Xbox360, I would go buy my 360 tomorrow. No joke. (Costco has a very nice price on them)

Well if IGN's info was correct, that was a 360 version demo we saw from E3. Also worth noting, G4 was reporting Assassin's Creed as a 360 game until earlier today.

What the fuck is up with Sony? Is it common for them to use their weight to put the kibosh on things like this? E3 this year has really sullied their name in my (almost worthless) opinion.

  THAT ran on 360? Oh man, Im going to have to track down some pictures. I was under the impression that that game was a P$3 exclusive. If I can find an image of somebody playing that on the 360 controller, I may have to go to Costco and grab me a 360.

I think the shit finally hit the fan at E3 this year. People are just sick of the bullshit that Sony spits out. Where the fuck is my GranTourismo4 port for PSP Sony??!

Well the unfortunate problem there is that if the story is true, the demo was played using a PS1/2/3-to-USB adaptor. That's awfully convenient if the story isn't true. Then again, I've never known IGN to flat out lie, and I don't see why an Ubisoft employee would refuse comment if it's not true. Thus the mystery. The evidence is compelling, but there's no proof.

Did any other gaming website pick this up? I notice that when I google "assassin's creed Xbox", the first thing that comes up is a page from Gamespot that does not exist. Interesting indeed.

Edit: The OXM UK website has a listing for it
    http://www.oxm.co.uk/games/3rd_person/assassins_creed

Edit#2: and they seem to say only officially PS3... but they do have it listed o_O

Indeed. That does make it sound like someone was telling secrets they weren't supposed to. It's pretty normal for Sony to give developers a financial incentive to stagger the release of a multi-platform game. In this case, I guess part of the deal was that they're not supposed to even announce the other version either. I wonder how frequently this happens.

Still, it's not fair to the consumer, and making news sites take down the articles is bullshit.

So, Sony is the bad guy for requesting a somewhat slanderous sounding article based on a rumour started by microsoft reps?

Flamepanther, your hard on against Sony is becoming rather boring.

But the one you have against Nintendo is just fine, obviously. :rolleyes2

And of course if there's a disagreement between IGN and Sony, IGN must be guilty of slander. See above comment about what IGN usually does with incorrect articles. If the information was bad it

    a) probably wouldn't have been reported by reputable news sites
    b) would have been denied by Ubisoft, and
    c) would have been corrected.

    Watch the baiting....

As for Sony throwing it's weight aroundwhy don't you ask Sega and Nintendo about the PS2 Launch? Thay are still in court over that one.

I remember there was some stink about that, but I forget the details at the moment.

    OH NOES SONEE R EBIL!

Man, it's more likely that Ubisoft have a nice deal going on, some asshat mentions offhand that a 360 version is coming, later, but due to contract obligations can't officially announce it. IGN idiot posts it up as some big scoop... Ubisoft ask them to take it down.

    BAD SONY BAD BAD SONY.

Bad somebody, anyway. If the information got leaked, then news sites have the right to report "hey, we got this info, but Ubisoft won't confirm it." This very site posts leaked info all the time, but Hasbro usually doesn't ask for it to be taken down. Sony has been known to sue companies out of existence (Bleem!) with a case that doesn't hold water, and they've got the most interest in keeping this under wraps, so they're a pretty likely culprit.

Not as likely a culprit as Ubisoft.

But no, you're right, Sony is evil, and should die a terrible horrible death at the hands of Righteous and True IGN! Avatars of great journalism and not at all fickle to the demand of the malicious advertising dollar.

    Insert huge rolleyes here.

You sure? Ubisoft has maybe a nice bonus at stake. Sony potentially has an entire system launch at stake and needs every decent exclusive they can get right now with their PS3 price tag. Besides, I've never heard of Ubisoft strong-arming anyone like that before. Sony already has plenty of precedent for throwing their weight around.
