IGN: Shadow of the Colossus Movie Announced

Why couldn't this news have been about a PS3 remake? Not to jump on the "everything will suck" bandwagon, but unless the stylize the hell out of this movie, visually and in its pacing, there's no way it will capture the feel of the game. Hell, the movie shouldn't even be in English.

edit: This movie will be based on the first 3 colossus and will not show the remaining Colossi being defeated, and will star Twin Twist.

I can't imagine the game translating well into a movie. Sure, it's cinematic, but if the movie were the least bit true to the game I could foresee audiences hating it, which means there's no way it will be.

I'd rather it flop and be true to the game, than for people to love it and it look like Scorpion King. It can be made well, but chances are it won't, and that's coming from someone who doesn't like to be a negative Nancy about things. But Damn Damn Damn, it could be translated well.

I saw this on G4 yesterday this movie is not going to live up to the game. NOT EVEN CLOSE! I am hoping the ICO team makes a sequal for the PS3.

I hope they reveal something this Summer. They have something cooking, but no one knows what it is. As much as I would love a sequel, I'd like to see what else they have up their sleeve.

It sounds like this is only going to be in relations to the game by pretty much name alone. Also, I've heard about plenty of games that were meant to get a movie but it never happens. I think they just like to secure the rights as a "just in case".

In all reality, even if this never happened, the game is pretty much a long movie anyway. It sometimes looks that good.

When will Hollywood get it's ass out of its head?

For something like this, you HAVE to do 16 hour long episodes. Kinda like what Band of Brothers did. With each dealing heavily on the tremendous feeling of being alone in a massive world.

The idea would work if each episode was divided up by:

    0. Wanderer makes his way into the forbidden world. Only happens in first episode. Bridge scene is crucial, should show entire world in one big shot. Seeing Wanderer cross the bridge, once you see it's size you will be awed.
    1. Wanderer receives his mission from Dormin.
2.Wanderer makes his way to the colossus, great feeling of being alone, scenery shots, beauty of nature, awe of landscape.
    3. We cut to the priest, and flashbacks explaining what Wanderer did, how the girl died, why the Priest is after him, who or what is Dormin and how it came to be , etc. etc.
    4. Wanderer finds the Colossus's dwelling, cue creepyness and mystery of the surrounding. Wanderer explores the area.
    5. Colossus makes it's presence known. HOLY SHIT. Wandferer begins to fight/attempt to slay the beast.
    6. MASSIVE. And I mean MASSIVE battle ensues. Wanderer is running/climbing/holding on for dear life. Jump stabs. JUMP STABS! Final death blow to the Colossus is always the best.
    7. The beast falls. HARD. We take enjoyment in seeing it go down, at a slow rate, taking down whatever buildings or natural formations may be in way of it's fall.
    8. Wanderer kills the Colossus, black tentacle things emerge and strike him.
    9. Everything goes black, we hear the faint voice of the girl.
    10. Roll credits.

^THAT is how it should be done.

Otherwise NO. It just won't work as a 2 hour film.

Shadow of the Colossus is already enough like a movie, why take away the gameplay and make it a movie?

Speaking of movies, you know what's a good movie? MGS4. :D

Loved this game, it would be awesome for PS3, and for some reason I think of the Neverending story when thinking of this game as a movie.

One of my all time favorite games.

BAD idea for a Hollywood film.

If SotC was ever made into some other media format about the only thing I can perceive tolerating would be either an beautifully animated OVA anime with about as much dialog as the game (so yeah almost a silent film with a few subtitles, so most people would hate it).

Or make it like a documentary, just a camera following Wander around as he slays the Colossi.

Still it certainly feels like a bad idea and I wouldn't be surprised if it never gets beyond this early planning stage.

But something did occur to me regarding this. If they make a movie, then of course Sony will want to bring the game into the limlight again, and what better way than to rerelease it for PS3 with enhanced framerate and maybe a slight visual update....slight because the game still looks great.

Yea, but it could end up being a movie game and we all know how they turn out.
