So since some of a reviews Ive read have been kinda mixed. Would the KO Shadow Commander be worth buying for $50? Or is the real deal THAT much better to spend like an extra $80 bucks on top of that for it?

I've already gone and bought both a MISB Nemesis Prime, and a MISB (well, MIB, I opened it to make sure it was the real one, rather than the KO), but have been debating what to do with it. It's neat to have, but it's not really representing a G1 character, so I've been debating selling it.

I mean, he doesn't really look like the IDW Nova Prime. And the Armada, Animated, Binaltech, and Alternators versions are clones, sometimes created from some poor hapless gumby.

If you want Nova Prime, you'll have to track down those uber-rare prototype Nova Primes they made and then repaint em black :p

Thanks for some opinions, I have only ever bought one KO and it wasnt that great, but the reviews on the ko commanders werent too bad. I would prefer to support the 3rd party companies as well but $80 savings could buy another figure. lol.

I do not have a KO Shadow Commander yet - but i've been thinking about getting one as I was very pleasantly surprised by how good the KO Dia Commander is. There are some minor differences.
You will always hear people bemoan about how loose the shoulders are - well based on my Dia KO I can say they are no where near as loose if the toy is seated on a legit Voyager.. they are only significantly looser on a KO voyager. Easily fixed with some triple folded card tucked behind the shoulder clip. The only other small issue I had isn't a problem on Shadow Commander though and that is the launchers not fitting properly as I don't think he has any so it's not an issue.

But there is actually a couple of ways that he might be better - the vehicle modes are pretty much fine so no worries there. and the KO Shadow Commander is based on a later design so he has holes to take 5mm weapons the original ones does not have these.

Also the KO ones has legs that are a tiny bit easier to get on an off than the legit one which are so tight they almost get stuck.

If your prepared to dab a few bits with varnish or floor polish I think it's worth buying the KO - You might like to consider buying the KO one and then if you can not deal with the loose shoulder or other minor issues if you don't muck it about you shouldn't have any problem reselling it.
as even the KO's sell pretty well.

The KO version isn't nearly as bad as some are making it out to be, but it is certainly going to be looser in places, and probably isn't going to fit together 100% properly. Such as the big gun not folding in completely properly.

Really it depends on how much you personally need to have the armor be as perfect as possible. If you're generally ok with things not being 100% and don't really want to pay that much more, then the KO should be fine for you. But if you're a stickler then you'll probably just want to shell out the money for the real version.

This is what I'm hoping for. Hopefully I don't end up kicking myself in the ass for passing on Battle Tanker for the moment.

I'm really intrigued to see if this set becomes a rarity further down the line.

I'm still not sure if I want an upgrade that involves boiling my Optimus Prime in water . . .
