I got one of the Radio Shack (or other store) gray Shockwave toys that sold during the same time as that year's Transformers line. Ran on Ebay for about $30 or so, and the electronics still worked. Nice deal.

Well, I've had it for a couple of years, and I finally decided to paint him up like Shockwave.

The purple is lighter than the original, but I think it's a nice shade. But I'm facing a dilemma. I bought the spray paint I'm using about a year ago. I'm running low, and I can't find any more of it. It was a Krylon spray paint, called "Home Decor." The shade was Plumb Royale Satin.

I thought I found a comperable shade of Krylon Int/Ext Plumb, but it's a half-shade darker. Plus it's gloss. And this other stuff really did have a nice glove-like fit over the surfaces I've painted with it.

Good news is, I'm thinking I have JUST enough of the old stuff to pull this off. The front half of the body and other leg are done, and I'm painting the backhalf of the body and speaker box as we speak. I should have just enough for the other side of the speaker box and any other little corners that don't get sprayed. I hope.

Anyway, I should have new pics soon.

That is a nice shade of purple. Looks good. Can't wait to see it finished.

just remember if you run out and cannot find the right shade, you can always get the closest in gloss and use a gloss finish on the parts you already painted. The gloss might change the color to match the new paint you have. Hope this helps and love te idea.

True, but I'm not a big fan of Gloss coats. It makes the thing look wet. That was my bigger problem about this other shade. Being a tad darker is fine--I could always go back and respray everything. But yeah, it's too shiny for what I want.

But that's okay. It's looking like I'll have just enough afterall. I have the back speaker panel to finish, plus some corner splotches here and there that need to be filled in. I think I'll JUST make it.

If you're forced to go with a gloss paint instead, you can always tone it down afterwards by going over the parts with a dull-coat or semi-gloss spray.

ooh, I've got one of those, too! maybe that's what I should do with it. I've found that if you google krylon, there's lots of places you can order it from online.

That was one problem with the KO, the trigger is much bigger. And yeah, now they're two different shades.

I'm afraid I'll ruin the trigger if I try to modify it, unless someone has a nearly-destroyed ACTUAL shockwave I can get a trigger from to swap it out.

I dont think it's a bootleg per se, seeing as how it has die-cast legs.

The color scheme is pretty good. I wasnt sure if it would work having it so bright when the Hasbro colors were very dark, but for a show-accurate version it's quite nice. But dont forget the yellow eye!

Well, it isn't really a 'bootleg.' It's one of a few NON-TF Shockwaves that were selling at the time, and their quality was (to my knowledge) as good as the Hasbro version. And yeah, I'm painting the eye yellow as we speak.

you should mix clear blue and red paints to get a nifty purple so you can do the hands, crosshairs, gunpiece... then you'd only need to paint the eye. looks really nice.
