My 17th birthday is on Thursday. Just the thought of it makes me anxious. 17 sounds so much closer to 18 than 16 does, and the though of being viewed as an adult in just over a year seems impossible to live up to, as I dont even have a drivers permit yet. I realize this seems like a stupid to get so worked up about, but its scaring me and I cant help it. Has anyone else been in a similar situation, or have any advice for dealing with this worry?

There's a lot to look forward to than to worry about these things, youngblood.

Instead of worrying bout it, think of it this way: you're going to actually start living. :thumb

Don't worry, no-one thinks of an 18 year old as a full adult. At that age you still have a hell of a lot to learn.

17 is good. But when you turn 21, life moves quick.

This is true. Only people your age and younger think of you as an adult. Everyone older than you thinks of you as a kid who thinks they're an adult.

From someone who is about to break the brink of teenagery. Let me tell you now, enjoy it... Adult life is not for those of the feint of heart, and only few are able to enjoy life once it has advocated itself upon your life.

For if you grow up to fast, you may find yourself a slave of time, a slave that works hard to provide for his or her own well being, but being then victimized due to their own obbsessions and greed, that grow individually in nitches forcing people spend money on cheap trinkets in order to hide their own depression, and being hypnotized by this force of product unawarness that the sheer fact of the meaning of our current life is just to survive with all chances of survival being based purely on entertainment and the values that follow of that.

tl;dr. QUIT YAH BELLY AHCING! YOU'RE ONLY 17 YAH TWIT!

Only advice I can say is... Do something about it, I guess? You don't feel you're ready for adulthood, so work on preparing yourself? Get your driver's license, cultivate good adult habits, work on the kinds of things you feel you still aren't up to snuff at.

It's not like you're going to wake up on your 18th birthday and everything is going to be different, it's just an arbitrary age where the law has figured most people are ready for certain responsibilities.

Oh, goodness! I would LOVE to be 17 again :)

I, my friend, am 6 months away from THE DIRTY THIRTIES....*gulp*. My life has moved so quickly once I got out of the teens, I think there isn't a lot I wouldn't do just to get some of that time back.

Also, I was an immature kid at 17, yet by 18 I did have my shit together to a pretty good degree and think that I handled life ok. It's amazing what just one year does :)  you'll be fine!

I promise, it's not all it's cracked up to be. Just try to have fun.

Age is only a number. Enjoy the party, eat some cake and Like Bob Marley said: "Don't worry about a thing, 'cause every little thing is gonna be alright"!

    Happy Birthday!!!
