    MISB G1
    AFA
    International G1 (Japanese, European)

That's as serious as you can get.

I hate to say it, but this is a poorly formed opinion and I'm sure a lot of rare/vintage G1 collectors will agree.

I would say that being a serious collector is a state of mind.

Mhm. I consider myself an avid impressionist, even though I'm not professional. Someone can have five toys and be just as serious about each one as we are about our collections.

It probably depends on what those 5 toys are. If a collector had only 5 toys and they came from either Victory or Masterforce (Japanese G1), then I'd label them serious considering the amount of money and research involved in collecting those lines. If someone had 5 retail Prime or DOTM toys, then I'd consider them more of a casual collector. But what if those 5 Prime toys were FE or AM? Or what if those DOTM toys were all Takara releases or exclusives? Well, I'd probably hype them up say they're at least semi-serious.

I'm not a MISB collector but I own every figure that appeared on a show in mint condition open and diplayed. I think of myself as a serious collector.

Now by serious how hardcore are we talking. I enjoy my hobby and I enjoy my collection but they are not my world. If I lost them all tragically I would feel a hurt but I would not crumble.

As I said, state of mind. There are those who live and breath a hoby and those who incorperate it in to thier lives but still colelct as hard.

This is a tough on to answer.

A great way to test this out would be to get 30 collectors in a room, making them watch a MISB Grand Maximus set ablaze, and then documenting their respective reactions.

The ultimate "serious" collector to me would be one who only collects AFA graded G1 figures. MISB collectors are also quite serious.

For Brave Maximus I'd probably have a slight finger twitch. But for Grand Maximus, I might just throw myself in there and try to smother the flames with my body :D

I collect TFs and hope to pass them to my son not because I think they are valuable in the monetary sense.

They are valuable because they represent who I am, a big part of my childhood and represented the values I grew up believing in.

I own the TFC and MP lines but don't consider myself a serious collector. Maybe someone like him can be considered one. Heroic Decepticon

A collector is a collector is a collector. I don't care if they have ten tours or ten thousand, any type of eschelon within collecting is stupid. Let people enjoy their hobby in their own way without giving them any labels.

In the end...this hobby is about "having fun"...we hunt for toys...we play with toys...we watch cartoons...we read comics...there is nothing "serious" about that in my opinion. Start collecting art if you want to be serious

I'd laugh my ass off at the nerd flapping but then my disdain for all thing Fort Max is well recorded.

Considering the lengths people go to obtain toys as well as the copious amounts of money involved, I don't see how toy collecting can't be serious. Again, your logic is flawed.

It's my opinion. You don't have to agree. I don't think toy collecting is serious...you do...so be it.

    Not all of us.

I don't play, don't read any comics, don't watch any cartoons.....especially anything not G1 related....and even then it's only snippets here and there to get reference material in customs if I can't find stills. I did all that when I was a kid. Nowadays my collection isn't tactile, it's based more on nostalgia and visual satisfaction. The only media I'd use alot is probably the video games.

(Yes you may point to my sig......but that is a picture taken/setup for a the soon to be owner of MP Shockwave :D , my figs get very very little handling time).
