How exactly does it work because at the end when the autobots gang up on Sentinel he shoots at Sideswipe and it hit him but at the very end of the film he's clearly alive?

That could have been any blaster and wasn't necessarily a rust cannon.

Someone suggested that it has two settings, much like how a phaser in Star Trek has "Stun" and "Kill" settings. Stun would operate much like any other blaster, firing a lower-powered shot to ensure a longer life for the "battery". Kill would be the Cosmic Rust attack on Ironhide, a devestating one-shot attack that uses a significant charge.

IIRC, it looked exactly the same as the Rust Gun used to shoot Ironhide.

I think it just takes more power to shoot the cosmic rust as apposed to just normal rounds.

I wish there was a moment where the gun was destroyed, like a sniper shoots it (while Sentinel's monologueing to an otherwise defenseless Optimus) and it rusts itself away or something. That gun has to be one of the most dangerous and iconic weapons in the series, and it just disappeared.

I wish Optimus had used it to kill Sentinel, like in the comic, as opposed to just executing him with Megatron's hobo shotgun.:(

Agreed. He deserved to go out experiencing what he put Ironhide through.

Perhaps Sentinel needs a certain ammo cartridge in order to blast enemies with concentrated rust, and unfortunately he used all he had left when he killed Ironhide, tried to kill Bumblebee, and blasted the exterior of NEST.

They shouldn't have killed Ironhide. He was the best.

It u guys watch that scene, when Sentinel pulls out the gun he pumps it a certain way, hence the system setting switch to shoot Ironhide. Also mayb it takes longer to shoot off rounds as oppose to a standard shot. When he shoots Ironhide nd at Bumblebee, the shots are hesitant nd not 1 after the other. Idk that jus my theory : )

    WRONG!

It was a very bad reaction to Mojo's pee. Poor Ironhide, it did rust.
