Hey dudes, Jimmy here from Bot City, just realized something. We have all seen Sentinel in his Ark tomb and gold form. Then we saw Sentinel in his robot fire truck mode off the pages of Empire Magazine. So S. Primes 2 robot modes look identical. From there it hit me that this shows that the Autobots proto-forms in the first film are not there true early bot modes, they are probably for space flight(due to all looking the same). I was thinking this but my bro made it even clearer that S. Primes gold mode is not his proto-form mode but rather his cybertronian mode. So my TFW brothers and sisters, what are your thoughts about this???? :)

I think it's just his protoform mode like I think megatron was in his protoform mode during the first 2 movies until he scanned the truck (notice he kept the same head sculpt just as sp did). IMO cybertronian mode and protoform mode are synonyms.

^^ agreed. I'm sure it's wayy cheaper to keep similar parts of SP for his two modes.

I think they've cybertron modes, flight modes(shedding their distinctive forms ) and then their earth modes.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure protoforms are just for space travel. Otherwise what would be the point of turning into a comet? Megatron's altmode however is space ready, which is why he didn't have a protoform in the movie and why he could chase the Allspark before the others.

I think we'll see in the end Sentinel on the moon will also be red. I think he was gold in the teaser to hide his identity.

    Skeletal Structures

I can’t be bothered to find a link to it, but in some book for the first film that Simon Furman wrote it was stated that the Protoforms are more or less the skeletal structures of the Transformers. They’re not their true forms. As a result, Megatron wasn’t in his Protoform in the first and second films, that was his true form. Same with Sentinel Prime on the moon.

Ditto to the skeletal form. Notice how little similarity there is between Sentinel Prime on the moon and Optimus after crashing to earth:

Sentinel looks fully realized - while Optimus looks like he's made of taffy.

^Also notice how all the protoforms look the same, whilest Cybertronian modes are individually different.

Or maybe they're just changing concepts for the 3rd film? I'm sure they're taking cues from the comics where this happens a lot.

Generally the same exoskeleton for Sentinel before and after.

Optimus, Ironhide and Jazz share the same general protoform body. Much like what was done ROTF and now in DOTM it is a cost cutting measure.

So, when they morph into their spaceship forms, they're pretty much naked, right? Great, now I'll never be able to watch the "Arrival to Earth" scene without thinking of Will Ferrell in Old School - "We're going streaking!"

I think it's pretty cool. That makes three robots in the movies who we see in their true Cybertronian forms before taking on Earth modes. Pretty cool seeing this transition in these designs.
