My car is on its legs and I was thinking of maybe selling it for scrap metal. Has anyone around here done this and how much money did you get for the car?

friend of mine had bought a fiat coupe turbo... for a grand

Headgasket went so he actually broke it for spares - rather than just taking it to the scrapyard, sold everything that was bolted down - made two and a half grand, and then got 80 for the remainder from the scrap yard..

if its got good parts, strip it then sell the parts then scrap the rest..

Selling it straight for scrap will likely net you less than $100. If you can part it out you can probably get more, depending on what it is.

I know of a junkyard locally that will buy any car, period. He pays 300-600 if it's not running, and 500-1000 if it is. A co-worker just got rid of a Nissan Pathfinder that had the rear axle about to rust off and since the rest of it was in good condition he got a grand for it, then got a HDTV from that.
