I like it so far, but I do wish the secret of Trannis wasn't quite so obvious. Unless you're throwing a rediculously huge red herring.

I do like the constant chiming in of the "other" trannis.

    Some good storytelling elements there.

    No red herrings coming :)

Actually, we're not really handling it like a secret: it's just something that's not happened yet, but that is constantly evolving toward that specific direction/finale.

We were aware that there was no way to hide it, so we went for exploring his personality, reasons and so on... the story is meant to be about the psychology of the character, more than anything else.

The evolution of the body is incidental...we just had to feature it as well, or the story would be incomplete. Just not to be too ordinary in this mandatory development, we added the new details about the Spark Core shaping the ideal body.

I don't think it's THAT obvious....I hope I'm not spoiling it for anyone, but Trannis actually turns out to be Wheelie.

    XD

But it's not like Trannis has some sort of secret identity... he IS Trannis, nothing more, nothing less.

Really awesome. Solid storytelling there too. i'd kinda like to see the artwork just in penicls/ink to see it before it was colored. Would be kinda interesting.

We're working on this! For now, the Comments in the DA pages have a link to the unlettered art with colors. :)

Woah! Is this one going to become..you know? Big M? Cause his design is kinda similar to the WW version. ^^
Anyway, really cool pages! Loving the art ( both lines and colors) as much as the script. Excellent work!

Didn't Starscream use the same nickname in WW vol.1 #0?
What a coincidence that the Gladiator is also known as Master Of Massacre, and that Swindle calls him "Big M" :)

    Thanks!
There are many other stories from the Golden Age that we want to tell: let's hope that some other artists are inspired enough to join us! :3

    Nice insight on Trannis.

So basically... he's a Autobot that ended up as a 'Con?

A Cybertronian, who chose differently, I'd say: before the Civil War, factions did not exist.
Think of Cybertronians as the G2 characters who autonomously chose a side after some time to assess the situation and their own instincts.

    "Behind the scenes" notes.

    PAGE 1

"Then" and "Now", past and present, just like in the opening sequence of The War Within (vol. 2): The Dark Ages.

Trannis' Red Team composed of: Warpath, Treadshot, Thrust, Misfire.

Misfire is in his red version (Marvel TF Universe) to maintain the common "red" theme.

The small-sized alien warriors are based on the ones seen in Spotlight: Galvatron. No direct relation, though: just a tribute to Guido Guidi's work.

The podium in the Assembly Hall can change its own bas-reliefs colors.

The Assembly Hall was first shown in page 4 of SoD: Omega Supreme.

The mechs in the background seats are generic-bots sporting features that are a tribute to some G1 characters.

More about the characters: Trannis profile, Sentinel Prime profile, Omega Supreme profile.

    PAGE 2

The Citistate Assembly Palace, first seen in Short Story: Voice Of Experience, was designed by Iohannes.

Voice Of Experience takes place before Seeds of Deception: Trannis.

In the CitiState of Kaon, the Fortress Of Kolkular makes a brief cameo (see The War Within vol.1).

The "lava" river surrounding the Fortress (actually a flux of unstable matter) reaches a never-seen-before chasm, turing into a "waterfall".

    PAGE 3

Shockwave presented the Gladiator technology to Trannis in page 6 of SoD: Shockwave/Sondwave.

The holographic cannon in panel two looks dangerously familiar.

When the Spark Core is transferred from one body to another, the Metaprocessor data are transferred as well, thus assuring that personality and memories remain unchanged.

More about this in the Gladiator Armor tech file.

    PAGE 4

Why are there captions with different background colors? The answer will came in the last Act.

    PAGE 5

There is more than one Arena, of course. They are spread in different Citistates.
One is located in the bowels of Yetron, as seen in SoD: Jetfire/Grimlock.

The Devron Pavillon ring is not the same shown in The War Within (vol.1) #0.

Among the nameless mechs of the crowd, Iohannes and Tomoko hid some G1 references: Springer, Soundwave, and Ironhide, for instance.

The Gladiator's opponents in panel 2 and 3 are Blitzwing and Astrotrain.
More about their ever-changing look in the Multiple Bodyframes tech file.

    NEXT

Where does Trannis find the resources to fuel his secret empire? Which other segments of the Cybertronian society did side with him? Industry, army, communications, science, finance, politics: are they all compromised?

Now that would be quite challenging: you'll se why after reading the finale of SoD Trannis.
Ibai would be quite tempted, but I'm afraid my script would be a bit redundant (meaning that I would use elements already seen in Trannis' chapter). I must think about this anyway.
