    There are no secret oil spills.

    Just stuff you don't hear about on a regular basis.

    In fact they used to plug them with dirt, mud whatever was handy, so they almost all leaked anyhow.

    Wasn't until the 70's or so I believe when they used to have to actually cap them with concrete and the like. Even later before they had to cap and also monitor them.

    Yeah... large scale oil spills are among the few problems (along with not being able to watch the Superbowl) that traditional means of news paper & strawberry ice cream just won't cut it for. :(

    Ha. This reminds me of the Exxon Valdez. It took 10+ years for payout of damages to those affected by said spill.

    And through relentless appeals they only were charged 1/10th of the original fines, which were 1/5th of the estimated cleanup costs

    The media doesn't have time to continuously report on trivial things like oil spills, or continuing damage from other disasters, they need to cover important issues like celebrity gossip and sports. They have our best interests at heart and only tell us what they think we need to know. Remember, ignorance is bliss.
