Like the colors and loving the head!
Whoa! Wasn't expecting him to use that mold. The head and colors rock though.
saw that one coming a mile away
Longrack remold. Looks good.
That was bound to happen, I think.
Head and Colors = awesome
Mold choice? Not so much.
I don't find it fits with pre earth Dinobot very much. He should be more "tanky" like DW Dyno-bots.
Colours look good, but man am I sick of that mold.
It looks nice, but that ain't Dinobot.
A construction vehicle is maybe a bit unusual for Dinobot. And I'm not a huge fan of the original toy mold. But the head is perfect. And the overall deco is fantastic. I love the brown stripes. It's a perfect touch.
the big arm looks ridiculous, their robot mode wasn't supposed to change that much, so I don't think it makes sense. I think any mold would look better than Longrack.
After going through Alvarez's 20 questions last night, I figured we'd be seeing Longrack-with-Hoist's-head-as-Dinobot today.
It looks nice, but the blue isn't working for me. I understand why it's there, since they opted to use the same colors that the 10th Anniversary figure had. But on that figure and the TV show model, the blue didn't dominate like it does here. If I was in charge, I would have switched the parts molded in blue and the parts molded in brown.
I'd agree. Not very befitting of such a warrior. But what can ya do?
edit: So that is Hoist's head, and Longrack's key slot piece. Not a remold at all then.
Not a remold - it's Longrack with Armada Hoist's head. I think it looks pretty good. It's certainly exactly the right mold choice, and the smart move with the head, but I agree the blue is overused a little.
So these are supposed to be the beast wars characters before the crashing on prehistoric earth?
Needs more tans and less blue. Mold is good but I wish he didn't have the shovel arm. The colors just don't make me think he's dinobot even though I know he is. So lets see, we get a Deluxe for dinobot, a basic for rattrap, a mega for primal. Not too bad so far.
What's the deal with the crotch-wheel?
But in all seriousness, I could never afford to even go to Botcon, let alone buy the figures, but they look awesome.
I always thought most fans have not been able to move on after G1.
I think the toy designers have not been able to move on after Armada.
I would have pictured his pre-earth form as something sleeker and more combat oriented. I guess if not for the huge shovel arm that this kinda works (the fingers on his other arm somehow remind me a lot of the real Dinobot's bot-mode hands.
This is probably my favorite Armada mold, so I'm very happy with this choice for Dinobot.
They definitely could stand to tone the blue down a lot, though. Looking at my BWX Dinobot, the only areas of blue are the kneepads, part of the waist (hidden beneath the chest plate), the robot face, the beast eyes and the interior panels of the tail weapon. In the BotCon version, it's a lot more prominent. I'd probably make the following changes to BotCon Dinobot:
- Add dark brown applications to the tank treads.
- Light brown/gold replacing blue on the inner 'gears' of the treads.
- Light brown/gold for the chest grille.
- Replace most of the blue on the shovel arm with a similar grey to that on the legs.
- Replace blue on the left hand fingers with grey.
- Leave the various joints and the robot face blue, keeping that shade as an accent colour only.
It's not a bad color scheme ... I just don't like the Arm. Hoist mold... but at least its not Arm Sideswipe .... or will that be next weeks preview ... in yellow with cheetor's head
I still remain optimisitic about the rest of the set
