How does a bullet not penatrate a seat belt? That's a crazy, old-school Ripley's Believe It or Not newspaper story there.

^One the windshield must have absorbed some of that bullets energy, and its a good thing seat belts are made of kevlar.

Yeah. The Windshield would have slowed it down a bit. Windshields are laminated from two pieces of glass, with a layer of flexible plastic between them, all thermally bonded. (It drives me nuts, when I see a non fiction TV show claim that windshields are made from tempered glass. That wouldn't be legal.) That would slow it down a good bit, and the tight woven nylon of the seatbelt would have finished the job.

Even if the seatbelt material was strong enough to stop an unslowed bullet, the impact would still break bones. No way that bullet was moving at full speed.

When I first read it, I read to fast and saw that Christopher Walken was arrested.

Well, that's not what they're meant for, but lifesaving is lifesaving.

I like how 'wearing a bulletproof vest while commiting a crime' is a seperate offense. Just like 'curling up into a ball when officers gangbeat you' or 'closing your eyes when an officer uses pepper spray.'

Why would you be out shooting aimlessly while wearing a Bulletproof vest? In case of ricochets?

    Crazy.

If it gets the more sophisticated criminals away for a longer time then I'm all for it.
But ya, that is such a cool story. Cheetatron, is a Seatbelt really made of Kevlar?

Well, in the US, chances are someone's gonna start shooting back eventually.

Especially in Florida, where this happened. Florida has a new "Stand your ground" law which basically says "Hey, you're afraid? No problem. Kill the fucker."

"All right Adam, you sit in the car, with the seatbelt on. I'll stand on the hood, with the 30.06."
    "Shouldn't Buster be doing this?"

Yeah, I just Googled and read an article on that.

If I understand correctly, since the woman was in her car, and being in a car is the same as being in your own house under the expanded "castle doctrine" -- if she had a gun on her, she could've returned fire and killed her attackers without ANY legal consequence.

Which is not necessarily a bad thing in this circumstance ... but not a good thing in others.
