Just thought I would share a little project I am working on lately. The car robots from the Diaclone line have always been my favorite "TF's." After thinking about how the possibility of getting new ones is pretty much...well impossible, because the line is dead, I decided to start making my own with Diecast 1/32 to 1/40 scale model cars and styrene plastic. (They are about the size of bluestreak and ironhide, etc... so they are in scale with the old Diaclones!) I gotta say... cutting the diecast is a huge pain in the ass.

Here is my progress so far, ...the digital image is to scale, first to decide what his proportions would be, and then I quickly colored it to show KINDA what he's going to look like when finished..

Anyways too much talk, not enough pics, here's my work so far... Oh yeah, the names NightShade (tacky i know.) He's A Mercedes Benz 500.

Before anything.. This is the digital mockup of how he'll be painted and look!... It's all correct scale so these are the proportions he'll have. Those grey blobs are where I'm planning to put obligatory shoulder launchers.

This head and the carbody are the only things not goin to be scratch built... I am going to use this heads face and build a helmet around it.

The below show's the unrefined bare bones on the back that I will be cleaning up later.

After I finish this one I'm going to Diaclonize these as well. =)

More Progress in this same thread soon! =)

hey here is more progress on my diaclone car project.

I have finished building the head, one of the arms, the leg and crotch have been put together (although i may have to take them apart to fix an alignment problem) also i did a lot of gutting the hood out...! Not to mention creating a custom wheel shaft for the wheel to be able to sping freely. (it was just two wheels attached to a single cylender before.) Also I cleaned up the back of the first leg as well. The paint will make the back parts look like one soild peice rather than a bunch of peices together,........ .. well ive talked enough... just see the pics...

Head - Decided to make one instead of use that one I have in the other pictures. Kept it very diaclone-like, slightly samurai inspired as well of course.. Sorry I'll post more pics of it later, these aren't very good pics... he looks great from straight on and I didn't take a single pic of it......ugh...

The leg - bare in mine this all still needs to be painted and I'll be making custom g1 styled stickers as well to dress him up a bit.

    Leg folded.

The arm, which is ready to fold into the hood, missing the shoulder right now, what you see at the top of the arm is actually the "bicep."

Sorry don't have much time, gotta work tomorrow so I need to get to sleep! No pictured here is the complete chest with the working arm mechanism. Finished last night didn't have time to take pictures.

New name; CrowHop. Adding an extra joint to the car doors so it can rotate like pictured below.

The legs unpainted... So far so good! Everything is lining up perfectly.
    http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj307/Xformermike/more more progress/DSC02667.jpg

The arms. These can now fold into the chest, not pictured here.
    http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj307/Xformermike/more more progress/DSC02672.jpg

Annnd like usual; to give you a slight idea of what it's gonna look like... the stickers are an obvious hint to his faction. He's a ninja. Gonna be black. What better way for a 84 ninja decept to hide but as a car? ....yea i dunno.. anyways, getting really close to finishing. :)

Any recommendations on paint? I''m using an airbrush but I want the car paint to reflect properly, like a normal diecast car... I can't wait to paint and finish this thing up... it will look much better than in this rough stage.

Dude, looking awesome! I've always wanted more G1 style toys (poor articulation and all). I'm going to do the same with a VW hippie van. I just have to find a good way to cut the diecast...

thanks guys. I'll attach next time Redline.

Hey repair bay... Hippie van was sorta a plan of mine too, it will be interesting (if i ever get around to it.. which i probably wont..but..) to see the how we both approach it. Warning, working with the 1/39 scale is very hard... very small... Regardless after this custom I plan on doing an entire line of new generation diaclones.

To cut the diecast I would definetly invest in a dremel and some cutting wheels. I'm open to suggestions though if anyone has a better method... be careful though... I nearly cut my finger off three or four times now.... i really need the workbench thing... doing it by hand is dangerous. Wear goggles too.
