Found this to be a bit curious. This is from TFachive.com

    Transtech Designs

These toy designs for the most part never saw production or in these "more alien" forms. The Megatron looks a lot like the crap movie design. The Starscream mock up does as well. So is Hasbro trying to use old rejected toy designs as the basis for the "new, alien" movie look?

They look similar in overall concept. I wouldn't doubt that Hasbro, after the more traditional designs were turned down, sent the Transtech designs along to generate some ideas.

Your opinion is showing again. Those are awesome IMO, and I wish we had gotten that line. If we did, it may have softened the blow for the movie designs.

If only Starscream and Megatron would actually look like the Transtech designs (Galvatron for Megs though, not the Armada-esque Megs design). It just looks more menacing.

I didn't say I thought these designs were totally bad. I like some of them as well. The Starscream is better than the current movie look. Those Prime's are weak, though.

I just thought as toy designs, they probably weren't all produced because they went "too far" from what customers expect TFs to be. So Hasbro gives these toy designs (as well as all designs past (seemingly rejected outright by Bay & Co) and present) to the movie team and they're going to "push" the designs even future, putting us where we are now. Basically with a bunch of very un-TF robots.

The Transtech (nice design, but not Megs enough) and the movie Megatron (hideous "extreme" version of the TT design) just don't work as the Decepticon leader most folks wanted to see. And I don't mean "Megs has to be a gun from G1" either. Just a few visual cues so we know who we're looking at. Otherwise, the designers might want to include nametags.

While I have to agree the Transtech stuff is great art and all, they just depart way to far from the Transformers universe in terms of style for my liking. The only one that is really remotely acceptable to me is the rendition of Soundwave since it is more of a modern update to the original character, instead of an entire reinvention of it.

We're just guessing that this is were the mess began. There are too many similar elements for this not to be the genesis of the movie "mess".

Oh, I've thought from the start that this movie borrows the TransTech aesthetic, which was itself an extension of the Beast Machines aesthetic. I just don't think any actual designs from TransTech were used.

Seriously? Look at the face concept from both. Looks pretty damn close to me.

Movie Meg's face reminds me more of Beast Wars Dinobot then anything else. Go look and compare and tell me I'm wrong. :)

The face is what looks the least similar to me. The arms are the most similar part, and that's not saying much.

The "mandibles" are what tie the head designs most closely, the bottom TT design even has joints where the movie one has them. The top of the head is a little different though, but both are pretty cluttered.
