And they just cast Sulu, too.

Sulu is John Cho, as in Harold, from 'Harold and Kumar'.

Very interesting and unexpected choices. I am very curious to see how this turns out.

I'll never be able to look at Sulu and not think White Castle. I don't like that casting.

Love the choice of Simon Pegg, but John Cho... I've never seen him do anything remotely serious so I'll have to see it before I can judge it.

Don't get worried until they cast Will Ferrell as Kirk.

    Oh, flippin' sweet!

And it's good to see John Cho getting some high profile work. Kal Penn pops up freakin' everywhere.

Isn't this supposed to be prequelly? Or is that just old news and they've gone a completely different direction?

Honestly, I think I'm as confused as you are. Its supposed to be about the early days, like starfleet acadamy, but I can't see how they do it and fit it into established continuity. Then I've heard that its like a prequel set in an alternate universe trek, or something like that.

Hopefully the movie itself won't be as confusing as the rumors about it.

You know, it would shit all over the franchise, but if done right a comedy version might bring new life to Star Trek. Dangerous territory. You would have to get someone pretty bold to be in charge of that.

The rabid fans would never accept it though.

I'm not a rabid fan--I'm more like a "guy that watches the movies sometimes"--and I would shit all over that.

Galaxy Quest was genius. Star Trek-comedy would be awful.

I was just saying that because Chekov wasn't even part of the original crew.
