I found a screenshot of Scorponok on the web. Look at his back, it looks like writing there. Almost like the writing on some military vehicles. Maybe he has an Altmode, and they just don't show it on the film. Any thoughts?

Apperantly, due to the toy, the scorpion is his alt-mode.

But I never noticed the words.

The words are from Blackout... the Helicopter that birthed Scorponokl. It is a reference to the heli parts he is made of.

The '07 deluxe toy has a hideous "robot" mode... the legends version does too but manages the robot proportions much better.

I believe Scorponok's alt form is supposed to be an engine or something, in terms of the movie fiction, the scorpion form IS the proto form!

Scorponok is "made" out of a turbine part of Blackouts Altmode.
So some parts do resemble to some parts of that turbine, like the whole inside of his body and the plates on his back.

I noticed the military writing when I first bought the toy... I always just assumed that Scorponok was made up of military parts/metal for his trans-scan. You may be on to something.

If my quick google search is correct, Blackout would have a pair of engines like this:
That photo happens to have a human for scale, which makes just one engine far too small for Skorpy (plus, the engine itself doesn't have the armor plating), so he likely uses both engines and a fair amount of the helicopter's other innards.

This raises the question of just how accurate TFs are with their alt modes. Obviously they get the 'shell' and anything immediately visible to match, but what about all the inner stuff that no-one would see, especially with TFs that don't mingle with humans?

I think your right, but isn't the wrinting larger than what I see on the engine's shell? Just saying.

Skorpy also has the word "DANGER" on those two plates on the sides of his face.

Although Scorponok is supposed to have been part of Blackout's helicoptor mode I'd bet you'd be hard pressed to find exactly where he's supposed to be made out of on Blackout. For the CGI model design I imagine they just took a few 'coptor logos and slapped them on here and there to suggest a connection between the two characters. None of these things actually transform accurately.

But yeah, I believe he was supposed to be camouflaged as an engine on Blackout.

The Legend? Probably next to nowhere. But over in these parts you can find at least 5 Stalker Scorps pretty much everywhere.

I wrote this up for Other-Website-That-Shall-Not-Be-Mentioned-Here-And-Nobody-Ever-Seems-To-Read years ago:
