Synthetic Genetic Evolution - Ruth Williams - TheScientist - RichardDawkins.net
So, does this mean I can grow a TRU right by my house & not have to drive for an hour to find toys?
Biodigital jazz, maaaaaan.
That's neat, to bad the article didn't say how long the research team took them to make this "synthetic" life form.
nobody saw the movie Evolution? we're doomed, i tells ya!
On one hand, "synthetic" life forms, which the science buff in me finds to be pretty cool, on the other, the paranoid in me says we're doomed. If not for synthetic life forms rebelling against their creators, it's going to be the robots or even more likely some super-virus wiping out all of us. But hey, science marches on...
So basically if we let this tub of artificial goo sit around long enough it will spawn critters? Is that the assumption here?
I've seen too many movies to ever believe that this will be a benefit and NOT somehow spell our doom.
That's a possibility, the conclusion seems to be more that this goo can adapt and successive generations are better suited to their environment than their parents, mimicing what happens in traditional organisms. This not only reinforces the understanding of the principle of evolution, but advances our capabilities to create and study synthetic nucleotides.
Oh crap The Reapers are coming.
Mankind would be wise to pit the synthetic people, the robots, and the Octopii against each other and then take on the winner in a weakened state rather then try to repel each of their attempts at conquest.
This is awesome and also scary. But I think its really facinating!
I better come up with a way to endear myself to our new overlords and fast!
That's amazing, the fact that it could evolve and replicate just like DNA is just incredible
Maybe these will evolve to sentient life forms and philosophize about us as gods and their creators.
Or maybe they'll evolve and decide to rid the world of all the "human scum".
No more like some day you'll pant a TF vine in your backyard and harvest the deluxes at the end of summer.
