    Ummmmmm....they need an offical kilogram??? Does that mean all scales are calabrated with that exact one? No of course not, so why the need to have 'offical' ones.

    I knew the metric system was fucked up! ;)

    The official ones are starting to deteriorate, and depending on the circumstances, they will get these to do calibrations, but everytime they are taken out, they are exposed to atmospheric conditions that is throwing them off. This is a way around that.

    Hmmm.... maybe they could use such a perfect sphere in replacement joints such as for shoulders or hips so the replacements last longer.

    That's EXACTLY what it is. All scale calibrations can be traced back to The Kilogram.

    And metric makes a hell of a lot more sense than Imperial. You know what a yard is based on? Go look that up, and THEN come back and try to make fun of the most perfect system of measurement on the planet.
