Man, I would weigh nearly 400 pounds on that planet. I wonder how humans would evolve in greater gravity, get a bunch of short stocky mofo's there
Some more information about the star this planet orbits: http://www.solstation.com/stars/gl581.htm It's interesting to note the star may be a lot younger than the our sun. Also, are are a few simulations made using celestia, the first one shows a sunrise on this new planet (on the left) and on earth (on the right) - the star is actually smaller than the sun, but this planet is much closer to it's star than earth is. Here is another showing it from space. *Images created in celestia with calculations made by eburacum45 of the baut forum and are free for non-commercial use.
This is just awesome! I mean if there are planets like Earth and this one there are others with even more sutable conditionjs.
I want to visit there. Not stay, just visit. Do they now if the atmosphere is Hydrogen, Oxygen or Nitrogen based?
It hasnt been named yet. They had a lil segment on CBS evening news tonight about this. Very awesome stuff, no name for the planet yet. It would take like 21 years to get there if you could travel the speed of light and by a normal commercial jet it would take 25million years. I mean how bout some light speed.
This has got to be some of the most interesting news articles I've read in a while. Planet X? hehe, I wonder if it will have X-ilians living there. I just hope they don't send in Gigan to destroy earth. XD
Not me. Wouldn't the realisation that We Are Alone be impetus to get off our collective chunk and expand? I mean, talk about your Manifest Destiny. A whole galaxy to play with, and not even any natives to worry about oppressing!
It's strange they can claim we could possibly live on a planet that is so far away while they're not even sure what Mars is made of...
