This sounds very interesting. So far they've only managed to cloak up to a certain wavelength on the electromagnetic spectrum, but thats already Radar invisible.

Once their manufacturing gets better and nanotechnology gets better they'll be able to cloak a wider spectrum of wavelengths... which means cloaking light... and invisiblity!

The weird thing is that I could have sworn this news was atleast 6 months old. I remember reading the article. Must be a slow news day.

I hope they get a visible spectrum one going soon, then I can sneak into the girls' locker room.

Those bastards beat us to everything! God, they're so smug with themselves. :p

Anywho, as to the cloaking thing, alright! Now pretty soon I can go scaring people without actually having to be seen! W00t!

But won't you be blind if you're inside the cloaking field, as light bends around you rather than hitting your eyes?

I wouldn't think so. Light from the person trying to view the cloaked person would still be getting received by the cloaked person. It's the light hitting the cloaked person that the non-cloaked person wouldn't see. God, now I'm confused....

Actually, the person within the cloak would be blind. This was in last months PopSci actually.

Basically it works by making waves travel faster through the medium than through air, bending the waves around the object without noticible distortion. This means that the light you'd need to see would never reach your eyes.

Unless of course you left two eye holes and hope that no one notices a disembodied set of eyes lurking in the women's locker-room......

I wonder when you'll be able to buy joke microwave dinners to give to people. Run the microwave forever and it'll still be ice cold.

Eh. It says that you'd be inside a shed anyhow. I'd actually count on on not being able to see.

Great idea, but what could it be used for if you can't see out of it?

I agree; although I can't remember whether I saw this here or on fark. I have seen it before, though.

This is really amazing news, either way. It's gonna be neat to find out how far they can get with this cloaking technology in terms of the visual light spectrum.

Holy crap. That's the best setup for a porno I've ever heard.

DISEMBODIED PENIS IN THE GIRLS LOCKERROOM

You know somebody's already working on that movie.
