It definitely is more "inviting" for attracting a larger, newer, unfamiliar customer base. The incumbent base already knows what it is...I think it's a smart idea.

This. Renaming a channel, brings in new viewers it does not.

The Nashville Network (The National Network/Spike) would disagree with you. This sounds like a way to free up their format restrictions in the same way.

I'm worried they will drop 1/2 their Sci Fi shows in favor of more wrestling and other non related junk.

That's possibly the dumbest name for a network. Sci Fi Channel isn't a great name either, but at least it's spelled correctly.

I can understand the thinking behind this change. Not sure if I like it though.

SyFy? Sounds more like a Chemical formula if elements for Sy and Fy existed. Although I find it fitting, since the channel has been going downhill for a LONG time.

This SciFi has been incorporating straight fantasy elements and shows for what feels like decades now why should they continue to use such an inaccurate and obsolete name? Still I don't think I like how SyFy looks
